Something that amazes you everytime you see it

I love this thread…

  • a pregnant woman (the miracle of how that baby lives and breathes in her body just makes my mouth drop)

  • airplanes

  • how huge mountains and cliffs have had to be formed for millions of years to look the way we know them

  • the seeming infiniteness of oceans

  • how little tiny babies grow into adult humans

  • how music brings people to tears, laughter, conversation, just emotions in general.

  • how my voice is transmitted from my telephone receiver through that tiny cable to another telephone without a delay

Bees (generally)
Watching them zooming about from flower to flower, I can’t help but stop and watch, absolutely captivating and hypnotic.

Solitary bees
I love watching leafcutter bees at work

Ants
Watching them get organised to move a crumb or somesuch that is too large for any of them alone.

Water - in all its forms

I love rain, from drizzles to torrential downpours.
I love the ocean pounding on the shore over and over and over and over…
I love the gentle lapping against the hull of our boat at dawn at anchor.
I love the constant change of current and tide.
I love that there’s a whole world under the water that’s beautiful and alien and unattainable and savage and it usually gets along just fine in spite of human invasion.
OK, let’s go - who wants to go sailing RIGHT NOW?!?!?

And I do still live here, and you can too (again). Yes, the dream of ‘Disneyland’ spires and castles floating in air (the Prague Castle complex is the largest in the world, and late at night with the castle lit-up and everyone asleep, the whole hill it is on looks like it is floating in space…).

There is a reason why people come to Prague.

C’mon Mags…Get rid of your debt, sell the car, come back to Prague! I’ve got my brother convinced too- he’s saving up $10k (400,000Kc! Think about it!) and moving here to work on his writing for a year. He’ll be rocking up next spring.

Other than numerous Prague sights…I stare transfixed at:

-Raptors ‘kiting’ in one spot, hovering over their next meal.

-Performers demonstrating what a human body can do.

-Really neat salt-water aquariums…

Take care-

Fields of wheat or long grass in a breeze, mimicking ocean waves.

Michael Jackson’s face.

(From the sublime to the ridiculous.)

Women.

Hmmm. I can think of a couple.

The prairies in southern Alberta. You have this incredibly flat plain, and then all of a sudden out of nowhere several thousand feet high mountains are right there. I mean, its just strange, no slow build up of hills or anything. Its just two extremes bordering each other.

The Rockies. Absolutely breathtaking. One of my jaw dropping moments was on my way to Edmonton from Vancouver on my bike one year. I was almost at the Alberta border and I rounded a corner and Mt. Robson was right there, in all its majesty. This massive mountain (the largest in British Columbia) appears to come out of nowhere. Its stunning.

Everytime I see a Saturn V launch re-run on TV. I mean, how in the hell can these things get off the ground? The brute power is absolutely amazing and almost impossible for my meager little brain to comprehend.

On the same token, the moon landings. I almost get a tear in my eye everytime.

Stories about mass murderers on TV. I just can’t believe the lows that “people” of the same society are capable of.

Our cat Spud playing or hunting after a bug. Such a docile little kitty, but also a true killing machine in every sense of the word as well.
Thats about all I can think of right now… back to work.

Pepper Mill’s naked form.

I know we weren’t supposed to say SOs, but this really does amaze me. I will go into our bedroom just to watch her undress. Pepper is simultaneously flattered (I hope) and bewildered (I know) by this. She doesn’t think she looks that great, and she thinks her rear is too big. (Is there a woman who doesn’t think her rear end is too big? Anywhere?)But I find her body irresistably sexy.

I’m absolutely taken aback by the sight of a beautiful woman, the female body is so incredible, and my imagination at the sight of a well rounded woman with a great ass, nice large breasts is electrifying. I love women, they are so diverse, each with a unique quality and characteristic all their own. I get so turned on my an attractive woman, whether she’s wearing a dress, shorts and a t-shirt, jeans, if she’s hot, I’m in awe.
Ummmm, I have to go to the bathroom now…later, kids.

Maps. I can look at a map for hours. I find them fascinating.
A plane taking off. It’s just frick’n amazing that something that massive can fly.
A good piano player. How do they coordinate all 10 fingers to do that?
Clerks. The movie.
CNC Machine.
Women who dress slutty at the airport. I was at the Atlanta Airport for about 6 hours last week, and was utterly amazed. I couldn’t believe it. (And they never seem to be sitting next to me on the plane. My luck.)

I love hiking and discovering little things along the way. Everytime there is something amazing.

The sky out in the country, far from lights.

Watching someone else discover something amazing or new.

The way cats can move their ears.

Hearing Pavarotti’s second to last note (the high one) in the aria “Nessun dorma” from Turandot.

Venus. The planet. The way it shines.

The beating heart of a teeny tiny little fish still in the egg. Watching it develop from a mass of cells into a fish.

Fire. Flames. How they move.

Lightening, really close.

The way I look in the mirror – not bad, exactly, just so very different from what I ever imagined as a child.

rivulus

For me there are two things. First it’s lightning. I just have to stop whatever I’m doing and watch it. The bigger bolt the better. Second, the moon rise as seen from the front range in Colorado in the evening. Sometimes the atmosphere magnifies it so much it like looking at through a telescope.
