Something you don't know about Pennsylvania

Nice article, brix! Tastykakes and James Buchanan – I’m so proud to be a Pennsylvanian!

There’s a whole hell of a lot of scrapple in Pennsylvania.

So was Girl, Interrupted-part of that right in Hanover, where Engineer_Comp_Geek and I hang out!

Some scenes were also filmed in Lancaster. During my junior year of college, I was walking from the campus to a house I planned on renting my senior year. Imagine turning the corner of a quiet, residential block and stumbling on to a mid-20th century movie set!

Thanks for the comments on the article. One paragraph that got cut was about the Pennsylvania State Police being the first state police force in the US.

Is the “Billy Penn’s Hat Rule” still in effect? (No building in, um, Philadelphia (?) may exceed the height of the statue of William Penn.) I once read that developers were very unhappy about the rule.

I drink a Rolling Rock now and then. My late dad had season tix for the Pirates at their spring training park in Bradenton, FL.

Some information about Johnstown, my hometown.

Slap Shot was filmed here.
Same with All The Right Moves.

There have been three major Johnstown floods.
1889, 1936, and 1977.

The Inclined Plane is the steepest vehicular inclined plane in the world.

Westmont Borough has the longest continuous street lined with Dutch Elm Trees in the world.

The All-American Amateur Baseball Association holds a yearly tournament in Johnstown. Past players include Oral Hershiser, Steve Garvey, Paul O’Neill, Reggie Jackson, Bob Welch, Joe Torre and Al Kaline.

Our PA State Rep. Ed Wojnaroski successfully pushed legislation through to make our state dance the polka (thanks, Ed!).

Not anymore, The Liberty Towers are taller.

Non-Pennsylvannian checking in: everyone knows that your roads suck. And the Penn Turnpike is a good place for viewing tractor-trailer accidents (or the aftermath thereof).

IIRC My So Called Life was also set in Pittsburgh.

The Stephen King novel Christine was set in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. The movie version moved it to Calfornia.
