Down round these heah parts they advise us to make songs somewhat conversational , as if you’re talking to someone and telling a story. It cracks me up when songs that completely violate that rule become giant hits.

Okay two songs. One classic song I’d done for years and realized on stage one night that part of it made no sense, so I stopped in the middle to point that out to the audience.

Merle Haggard country music Icon had a hit with Daddy Frank

Daddy Frank played the guitar and the French harp {an harmonica}
Sister played the ringing tambourine
Mama couldn’t hear our pretty music
but she read our lips and helped the family sing

{the screech of brakes} Wait! what?
She couldn’t hear but she helped the family sing? What do you suppose that sounded like?
Insert off key non sense here. and Mom!! Shut Up Mom!! in sign language.

The nest is Good Morning Star shine form Hair, recorded by Oliver

“Good morning starshine
The earth says hello”

AW it’s wonderful waking up with someone you love.

“My love and me as we sing
Our early morning singing song”
Okay a little cheesy, but what song is it?

“Gliddy gloop gloopy
Nibby nobby nooby
La la la lo lo
Sabba sibby sabba
Nooby abba dabba
Le le lo lo
dooby ooby walla
dooby abba dabba
Early morning singing song”

Really? That’s romantic to you? That evokes a mental image of young love as two people with morning breath sing this?

Maybe that what Daddy frank and the Mrs. sing, …that sounds believable.

These are the sounds heard when they start the day off with an enthusiastic sixty-nine.

What?

James McNeill Whistler once made a remark (lost to history, I’m afraid) that Oscar Wilde found hilarious. “I wish I’d said that,” he told his friend.
“You will, Oscar,” Whistler replied. “You will.”

Live, The Distance

_“Let him come into the city
Let him find his lucky penny
Let him put it in his pocket and shake it all around”_

Why would you put a lucky penny in your pocket and shake it all around? It would probably fall out of your pocket.

Time For Me to Fly, by REO Speedwagon. Love the song, but every time I hear:

I’ve had enough of the falseness of a worn out relation
Enough of the jealousy and the _intoleration_

It’s very jarring. However, according to the internet, intoleration is a perfectly cromulent word, so I’m just going to let it go.

Richard Harris, Donna Summer and others

MacArthur Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down…
Someone left the cake out in the rain
and I don’t think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
and I’ll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

Makes me think of a **Cheap Trick** song, that I don’t think was released as a single, called “Space”. Every word that rhymes ends in “ation” or “asion”. And it’s pretty cool, except for one word:

You push hard, you stop my circulation
I know you really need a physical **relation**

Yeah, relationship doesn’t rhyme with circulation, but still, I find it annoying anyway.

Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting Miss Gale Garnett, performing her hit “We’ll Sing In the Sunshine”…"…I will never love you, the cost of love’s too dear…And though I’ll never love you, I’ll stay with you one year"… (cause her daddy told her to never love any man and take what he can give you)…such a winsome, sunny little song. I picture them in jeans, walking down a country road with sunflowers growing alongside, and her telling it like it is, end date spelled right out at the git-go. COLD!

Already mentioned and debunked on the first page of this thread. The line is “But if this ever-changing world in which we’re livin’…”

No offense, but how many times do we have to go through this? Every single time a conversation comes up about lyrics somebody mentions this, usually (as now) multiple times in one thread. Why do so many people refuse to believe Paul McCartney knows how to write a sentence?
