Because my first choice is too long, I’ll go with _Desire Lines_ by Deerhunter for my 48 hours. My enemy gets, oh let’s say, _Thunder_ by Imagine Dragons. No more enemy! I’m sure he would kill himself! I feel suicidal if I can’t turn it off within the first few seconds. On second thought, give me _Why Can’t I Touch it?_ by Buzzcocks. ---

My song would be “Walk Away Renee”. I love every version that’s come out and sing along every time it pops up on the radio. For my worst enemy, anything by Weird Al Yankovic. His songs are beyond annoying. ---

I’d consent to hearing something fairly innocuous playing constantly for 48 hours, knowing that while I’d loathe the song forever after, I was never all that fond of it in the first place - Tomita’s “Snowflakes Are Dancing” comes to mind. Mine enemy gets to hear 48 continuous hours of Minnie Riperton’s “Loving You”, cringing in ever-increasing dread as he anticipates the outbreak of glass-shattering high-pitched keening from Minnie. ---

For myself, I’d choose a relatively complex gamelan piece that I could hear new aspects of with every repetition and that it would help me to know inside out. The difficulty is finding a piece that fits the 7-minute limit, as the sophisticated pieces tend to last much longer than that. But something like this [Ladrang Wilujeng](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHebiUau6Mw) works because I play ciblon (a hard-to-master drum) on that, so the better I know it the easier it will be for me to play. I can’t quite match the horror of some of the enemy choices above, but [Happy Happy Joy Joy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZFTUtbn1RU) will do in a pinch. ---

My enemy gets Whitney Houston’s cover of “I Will Always Love You.” I nominate Mitch McConnell to be on the receiving end of this torture. For me, it was a tough choice. A song to have running for 48 hours straight has to be low-key, has to have a gliding or hypnotic quality to it.
