Songs about air travel and airplane culture?

Rush - “YYZ” (YYZ is the code for Pearson Int’l Airport in Toronto)

Fly By Night, Rush.

United Breaks Guitars

Daniel - Elton John

“Daniel is travelling tonight on a plane. I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain.”

LA International Airport - Susan Raye. (Hey, you didn’t say it had to be good  )

Come Fly With Me - Frank Sinatra

Up, Up and Away - 5th Dimension. Not originally about powered aircraft, but used for advertisements by TWA and the Australian domestic airline TAA (later to become part of Qantas).

That said, the OP nailed it with 100 Miles Away by the Hoodoo Gurus - sums up business travel perfectly.

Fly at Night, Chilliwack, except it’s not really about flying on a plane. Damned fine song from a lesser known Canadian band from the 70s.

John Denver wrote the song. And he technically left on an airplane, not a jet, but still it was prophetic.

Travelin’ Band by Creedence Clearwater Revival

“737 comin’ out of the sky
Won’t you take me down to Memphis on a midnight ride
I want to move
Playin’ in a travelin’ band, yeah
Well I’m flyin’ ‘cross the land tryin’ to get a hand
Playin’ in a travelin’ band”

On the Good Ship Lollipop.

Good one!

Flight 505 by the Rolling Stones. Include buying the ticket and getting a drink on the plane.
And crashing.

This Flight Tonight by Joni Mitchell.

And So Long Mom, I’m Off to Drop the Bomb? :stuck_out_tongue:

ETA Five Miles Out by Mike Oldfield, though this is about a private plane.

No. The song gets its title for a slang term for a military chaplain, and described the chaplain blessing the troops before battle, where they are killed.

The words “How high can you fly?” refers to going to heaven, and that the chaplain will never get there.

That adds some context. Thanks.

Airport - The Motors

I like that!

Shut Your Mouth and Get Your Ass On The Plane by the Drive-By Truckers, from their “Southern Rock Opera” album about an ill-fated, Lynyrd Skynyrd-type band.

“When it comes your time to go, ain’t no good way to go about it
Ain’t no use in thinking bout it
You’ll just drive yourself insane
There comes a time for everything
And the time has come for you to shut your mouth and get your ass on the plane”

Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron

From the album I mentioned earlier, I Wanted Wings.

“Waitress in the Sky” - The Replacements

“Lady Pilot” - Neko Case

30KFT, Assemblage 23 - but probably best not to listen to that one until you land. :stuck_out_tongue:

One of my all-time favorites:
