Songs/Bands that no one seems to remember

Emitt Rhodes
Poco
Kak
It’s a Beautiful Day
Flash and the Pan

A few bands from the 80s:

Living in a Box
Hayzi Fantayzee (sp?) (they sang “Shiny Shiny”)
T’Pau (had a minor hit, “Heart and Soul”)
Fun Boy 3
Sigue Sigue Sputnik - can’t remember a single song they did, but some kid at my school had a homemade Sigue Sigue Sputnik t-shirt.

One from the 90s- The Bingo Boys. They had a song called “Show Me How to Dance”, and before that, “Bring Me Edelweiss.”

Not as relevant as it would have been last week (hey, I’m starved for entertainment) is
The Earthquake Song, by The Little Girls
Absolutely goofy song; makes you dance while singing along to lyrics like

We’re gonna run run run
Havin’ so much fun
'Cause there’s a building chasing me-e-E
Smack smack! I just fell in a crack, and now I’m part of thee debree-e-E

Bands

Wall of Voodoo

Klaatu

Hindu Love Gods

I wouldn’t call It’s a Beautiful Day and “White Bird” forgotten by any means. David LaFlamme is still touring with a version of the band (including original drummer Val Fuentes); I saw 'em last year at Monterey. Saw 'em in 1969, too.

“Secrets”! “Crash” & “Secrets” are buried somewhere on my hard drive.

I remember Freedy Johnston - “Bad Reputation” is also taking up space on my hard drive.

A lot of seriously old school, early 80s, pre-Run DMC rap groups seem to be pretty much forgotten. I mean, people remember Sugar Hill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight or Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five’s The Message (or maybe White Lines), but not a whole lot else. When I’ve heard old school rap shows/stations on radio or online they tend more towards people like Eric B and Rakim or EPMD (who were good, but from a slightly later era) rather than, say, The Cold Crush Brothers or The Funky Four Plus One More.

To be the subject of the song you’d have to be related too - like her dad

Paul Hardcastle, “Nineteen” Paul Hardcastle - Nineteen Lyrics

I’d like to hear that again and see if it has any lasting value.

Ned’s Atomic Dustbin

The Poster Children

I’m sure they, and other bands have their fans and are probably touring. But outside the core, they are forgotten. “White Bird” was a radio staple; I doubt it’s been played at any commercial station in twenty years.

Let’s see, a few that jump to mind immediately:

Oxo
Chilliwack
Lonnie Liston Smith and the Cosmic Echoes
Pere Ubu

I remember those guys.

Me too. And I’d enjoy it even if it didn’t.

Holy crap. I think I can safely say “never.”

Dada - Diz Knee Land (nothing beats an amateur music video set to somebody’s vacation photos from 1995! )

2nu - This is Ponderous

Jesus Jones

Toad the Wet Sprocket

The Farm

Is my age showing?

You might be interested in Powder

A book written by the former manager of The Farm, and it describes the “rags to riches and back again” story of an indie band… From hoping an A&R man comes to their gig in a small venue, to the lead singer booking into a separate hotel in their north american tour…

Let’s see…

Ebn-Ozn (do I win the thread for this one? )
Eurogliders
Red Rockers
Let’s Active
Altered Images
Visage
Japan
8 Seconds
Chalk Circle

I’ll have to think of some others.

dammit! That’s who I was going to mention! :stuck_out_tongue:

How about Will Powers? Anyone else remember her?

Stillwater - Mindbender

I loved that album. I had it on 8-track, actually. I was bitch’n!
