As discussed [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=456720&highlight=trail) , I’m taking off on a 6 month hiking trip.

I’m loading up my MP3 player, and I’m looking for suggestions on songs about walking or traveling .

Well, for a start, there’s

Walk this Way - Aerosmith
Walk like a Man - Frankie Valli
Walkin’ on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves
I Walk the Line - Johnny Cash
I’m Gonna Be - The Proclaimers
I’m on my Way - The Proclaimers

or for Classical, there’s the
Songs of Travel - Ralph Vaughn Williams to texts of Robert Louis Stevenson
Songs of a Wayfarer - Gustav Mahler (German title - Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen)
The first two composers who come to mind when I think of who logged a lot of miles on foot are Eric Satie and J. S. Bach. Satie lived in a suburb miles out of Paris, and frequently missed his last train home. Bach walked miles to hear Buxtehude play organ, I’ll look it up, it’s mentioned in the David Barber “Bach, Beethoven and the Boys”
Let me know if you want any more
You could try entering Walking into the search engine of any of a number of lyric sites and see what you come up with, but this is more fun.
