Sorry, the iconic music from _2001: A Space Odyssey_ was Richard Strauss’ _Also Sprach Zarathustra_. _Fanfare for the Common Man_ is the theme associated with the Olympics. Speaking of the Olympics, _Chariots of Fire_ from _Chariots of Fire_. Also Smashmouth’s _All Star_ and _Shrek_. “Doo Wah Diddy” and _Stripes_. _Non, je ne regrette rien_ and _Babe 2 A Pig in the City_. _Cantique de Jean Racine_ by Gabriel Faure from _Babe_. ---

For years I thought of **The Deer Hunter** every time I heard Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You.” One day a few years ago I was riding around town with my then-beau on a Sunday afternoon when that song came on the car radio. I told him what I just told you, and he said, “you are so weird. Why would you think of that association; nobody but you remembers that; blah, blah, blah.” Imagine his amazement when the song ended and the DJ came on and said, "Aah, remember that great scene in the pool hall in **The Deer Hunter**? ---

The thing about Wes Anderson’s movies is that every song in them so perfectly fits the scene(s) they’re matched with that pretty much any song in _Rushmore_ or _The Royal Tennenbaums_ (Haven’t seen _Bottle Rockets_) could become forever associated with that film in your mind. ---

“All I Want is You” by U2, from Reality Bites and “Don’t Dream It’s Over” from The Stand. I know Neil Finn from Crowded House wrote it, but I’m not sure if it’s his version they use. Definitely not the new one by Sixpence None the Richer. ---

Whenever I hear All Star by Smashmouth, I think of Shrek. And lately “I’m a Believer,” too. But after rereading the OP, I do remember All Star was in Mystery Men, too. ---

One Star Wars theme in particular owes a lot to “Mars” of Holst’s planets. The one that plays at the begining as the huge star destroyer fills the screen in pursuit of Princess Leia. Dick Dale’s Misirilou from Pulp Fiction. ---

Anyone know if this was done for the movie, or just a coincidence that they came out fairly concurrently?
