Songs set in Los Angeles

Say Goodbye to Hollywood-- Billy Joel

Ain’t Nobody Straight in LA-- The Miracles (of Smokey Robinson and The Miracles fame)

The singer is in LA and asking how to get to San Jose.

Men’s Room L.A.

Just remembered another country one: You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma, the duet by David Frizzell and Shelly West.

*Everyone’s a star here in L.A. County
You oughta see the things that they do
All the cowboys out on the Sunset Strip
Wish that they could be like you.

The Santa Monica Freeway
Sure makes a country girl blue.*

You could probably make the case that all of the album Frank’s Wild Years takes place in LA, since it is based on the spoken word piece Frank’s Wild Years from Swordfishtrombones, in which Frank clearly lives in the northern San Fernando Valley, which is part of Los Angeles.

Ah, so it is. Didn’t realize. Well, Dwight Yoakam does a really nice cover of Carmelita with Flaco Jiminez on accordion. It was on Flaco’s Partners CD. Worth checking out.
