I agree except I would go with “A Girl Like You” as their most repetitive/popular song.🙂

Next week I’m playing a gig with a childrens choir and they’ve chosen to sing the Jack Johnson version of Ben Harper’s “With My Own Two Hands”. The song is sooooooo repetitive the kids are losing their minds.

The song is basically “I can \<insert anything\>, with my own two hands”: repeat several hundred times.😃

ETA: Of course, there’s the Justin Bieber classic that should remain unnamed.

I’ll nominate KC and the Sunshine Band for “That’s the Way (I Like It).” Uh-huh uh-huh.

Some of Fatboy Slim’s songs simply repeat a short phrase over and over.

Back in the late 1980s when I was stuck working in a place where they played the local pop music pap, I once counted the number of times that Debbie Gibson (Deborah nowadays) said “Shake your Love”. It was something like 46. In contrast George Harrison only repeated the same phrase 26 times.

And then there’s the third song on the second side of Lou Reed’s “Metal machine Music”.

Try the Wilson Pickett version. It cuts off about 3 minutes of “nas” and has Duane Allman on guitar.

Almost every Gospel song played at my father’s church. They frequently consist of two or three lines, endlessly repeated.

“Yes, my lord I say Yes!
Yes, my Lord, I say yes!
My Lord, My Jesus, I know you’ll fight my battles!
Yes, my Lord I say yes!”

This’ll go on for 5 to 10 minutes or till someone’s eardrum shatters, whichever happens second.

Remember, even repetitive lyrics can be copywritten. And I was amazed to find out this song was written and copywrited in 1988! The SDMB frowns on too much quoting of lyrics; our collective sanities frown on too much quoting of repetitive lyrics.
