Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the USA was released in 1992, but has a post 9/11/2001 feel to it.
The periods were similar. I recall both of them, mainly because my dad went off to Oman shortly after the ground war started in 1991, and there were yellow ribbons around trees (never mind the fact that song was about a convict coming home from prison… ) and big and little flags everywhere, to complement the flags which are usually kind-of everywhere in small-town southern Illinois.
9/11 was sadder, sure, but both periods were very overtly patriotic.
I always thought Elvis’ “Crawfish” from the King Creole soundtrack sounded way out of time for the 1950s, when I first heard the song, I thought it was a post 1985 remix.
Its not much of a song, but the backing track sounds oddly “modern.”
I was really confused for a while when “Drift Away” was covered by Uncle Kracker and played on Top 40ish stations. I knew it was an old song, and there was nothing about it that suggested (to me anyway) that it was actually recorded any time recently.
