I just discovered “[D.O.A.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClJLrxGClxk)” by Bloodrock (made in 1971) the other day. The gist of it is that the singer was in a plane crash and realizes he is dying. It is perhaps the creepiest song I’ve ever heard. Here is the final verse:
Life is flowing out my body
Pain is flowing out with my blood
The sheets are red and moist where I’m lying
God in Heaven, teach me how to die
The wikipedia page explains the inspiration for the song: one of the band members watched his friend die in a plane crash!

I’m not much of a one for musicals, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard a version of “Do you hear the people sing?” from _Les Miserables_ that I haven’t liked. This one is by the cast of a school production, via the medium of flash-mob, in a Walmart.
