Came in here to post this. Despite being familiar with Dawes, I somehow only heard this a month or two ago. I’ve been listening to it a lot. Possibly the most affecting lyrics I’ve ever heard. In turns mournful, absurd, optimistic, and open. It’s life in a capsule.
So bittersweet, but that don’t mean it isn’t sweet.
Their song “Bear Witness” gets chills for me, too, but I’d be the first to admit that it’s a little more maudlin.

It’s a great song, but for an even more chilling telling of the Vietnam War experience, have a listen to Redgum’s _[A Walk in the Light Green](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Urtiyp-G6jY)_(AKA _I was Only 19_).
I’ve mentioned this one before, but Crowded House’s [\*Hole in the River \*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUiyrKHIxAg)is one of the most soul-wrenching songs I’ve heard.
This song left a real impression on me when I was young.
Chilling, but in a good way.
Tracy Chapman’s [\*Bang Bang Bang \*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrRA7WMI1ks)quite literally moves me to tears. Perhaps more so than any other song.
