Christmas gospel song “Children Go Where I Send Thee” (Check YouTube for some good Johnny Cash renditions, and one entertaining rendition by Tennessee Ernie Ford in which his little kid steals the show.) Johnny Cash’s “One Piece At A Time” lists some components of an automobile. And there’s always “Old MacDonald Had A Farm” Tom Lehrer’s “Smut” contains a good catalog of the genres of porn. Allan Sherman’s “Good Advice” contains a compendium of good ideas (and one bad one). Allan Sherman’s “Green Stamps” contains a shopping list of ridiculous things he would buy just to collect the green stamps. Allan Sherman’s “Chim Chim Cheree” (a parody of the Mary Poppins song) lists a bunch of meaningless buzzwords used in advertising of the day that he doesn’t understand. Allan Sherman’s “You Need An Analyst” (a parody of I’ve Got A Little List?) lists a bunch of strange behaviors that, if you do them, might suggest you consult a shrink. “Merry Minuet” (recorded by Kingston Trio among others) lists ways people and ethnic groups who hate each other, as well as a few natural and unnatural disasters. Come to think of it, Tom Lehrer’s “National Brotherhood Week” lists several ethnic mutual-hate groups too. Tom Lehrer’s “Vatican Rag” gives an irreverent list of several Catholic Church rituals. And there’s always the Alphabet Song. ---

There are a fair number of traditional Irish and Scottish songs listing the participants in some battle or other, or heroes of the wars of independence. A few that come to mind: Boys From the County Cork The Atholl Gathering The Haughs of Cromdale–Andy Stewart used to introduce this in concert by saying it listed all the clans that joined in the second battle at Cromdale “probably after the idea of looting had occurred to them”. ---

There was a song I had to learn in junior high school, called _Fifty Nifty United States_ Part of the lyrics were the names of all fifty US states in alphabetical order. I hated the song but I can still recall the states in order, and that has come in handy for a variety of reasons. ---
