“More Bad Times” by the Presidents of the United States of America (apparently a cover, but I’ve never heard the original). It’s more or less a list of bad things that never happened, and several that did (“But not enough … to fill up a song”).
The Elements by Tom Lehrer
It Was A Very Good Year sung by Frank Sinatra and others.
At The Zoo by Simon and Garfunkel
The Intro and the Outro by the Bonzo Dog Band lists the members of the band. And it’s a particularly large band.
Seven Days, Sting
The first one that sprang to my mind is ‘Come to Australia’ by the Scared Weird Little Guys, but maybe that’s just me
The end of What Do You Want From Life by The Tubes lists a number of things you’re entitled to (if you’re an American citizen, that is).
I’m still waiting for my autographed picture of Randolph Mantooth.
The Joker by Steve Miller
I am a picker.
I am a grinner.
I am a lover.
And I am a sinner.
The one that jumped out at me was:
Tie Me Kangaroo Down.
Possibly, - Counting Flowers on the Wall by the Stattler Brothers
Simon & Garfunkel’s A Simple Desultory Phillipic
Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport by Rolf Harris.
One verse says, "Let me Abos go loose, Bruce,/Let me Abos go loose./ They’re of no further use, Bruce,/Let me Abos go loose.
The song was popular a long time ago, and I didn’t know that “Abo” meant Aboririgine, the dark-skinned people who were there before the British settlers moved in. Now I know that verse could be really offensive to the Aborigines.
ETA: I see that TV time beat me to it.
The Twelve Days of Christmas
Dog goes woof
Cat goes meow
Bird goes tweet and
Mouse goes squeak.
Cow goes moo
Frog goes croak
And the elephant goes toot.
Ducks say quack
Fish go blub,
And the seal goes OW OW OW.
Not that my kids still play that over and over or anything.
The Twelve Days of Christmas – Traditional
The Twelve Beers of Christmas – Bob & Doug McKenzie
Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of…) – Lou Bega
Land of 1,000 Dances – Chris Kenner/Wilson Pickett/etc*
Ten Commandments of Love – The Moonglows
Ten Crack Commandments – The Notorious B.I.G.
Sweet Soul Music – Arthur Conley
We Got More Soul – Dyke & the Blazers
Know Your Rights – The Clash
Women’s Love Rights – Laura Lee
*Ends up falling short of the title’s promise even more woefully than “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover”
I mentioned the Stattler Brothers earlier and this one came to my mind just a minute or so ago…
“Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott?” an incredible list song by the Stattler Brothers.
And AskNott you did a much better job of explaining that Australian gem than I did. I bow to you.
The bossa nova classic Águas de Março (Waters of March) is basically a list of disconnected images.
Byrds - Turn, Turn, Turn
I see what you did there.
