Songs that lists things

Mediate - INXS

Nations of the World - Yakko Warner

A couple by Ashley Hutchings (founder-member of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, The Albion Band and most of the rest of British Folk/rock):

Bury my Eyeballs on Top of Boot Hill (Old western film clichés)

And - No love for the greatest writer of list songs ever to walk the planet?

Every Breath You Take - The Police

Also Every Breath I Take - Gene Pitney

Both by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds:

Various methods of demise of people in a bar he walks into: O’Mally’s Bar(standard version clocks in at 14 mins but there is a 3 part outtakes that goes around 30 I think)
Random groupings of people saying they are on fire: Babe I’m on Fire

Christmas gospel song “Children Go Where I Send Thee” (Check YouTube for some good Johnny Cash renditions, and one entertaining rendition by Tennessee Ernie Ford in which his little kid steals the show.)

Johnny Cash’s “One Piece At A Time” lists some components of an automobile.

And there’s always “Old MacDonald Had A Farm”

Tom Lehrer’s “Smut” contains a good catalog of the genres of porn.

Allan Sherman’s “Good Advice” contains a compendium of good ideas (and one bad one).

Allan Sherman’s “Green Stamps” contains a shopping list of ridiculous things he would buy just to collect the green stamps.

Allan Sherman’s “Chim Chim Cheree” (a parody of the Mary Poppins song) lists a bunch of meaningless buzzwords used in advertising of the day that he doesn’t understand.

Allan Sherman’s “You Need An Analyst” (a parody of I’ve Got A Little List?) lists a bunch of strange behaviors that, if you do them, might suggest you consult a shrink.

“Merry Minuet” (recorded by Kingston Trio among others) lists ways people and ethnic groups who hate each other, as well as a few natural and unnatural disasters.

Come to think of it, Tom Lehrer’s “National Brotherhood Week” lists several ethnic mutual-hate groups too.

Tom Lehrer’s “Vatican Rag” gives an irreverent list of several Catholic Church rituals.

And there’s always the Alphabet Song.

Weird Al’s “Livin’ With a Hernia” lists the different types of hernias.

Bobby’s Kissin’ Time is a list of places where people are going to be kissin’.

Starting with Cleveland!

Mambo #5:

A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita is all I need
A little bit of Tina is what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man

Hair from Hair:

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

There are a fair number of traditional Irish and Scottish songs listing the participants in some battle or other, or heroes of the wars of independence. A few that come to mind:
Boys From the County Cork
The Atholl Gathering
The Haughs of Cromdale–Andy Stewart used to introduce this in concert by saying it listed all the clans that joined in the second battle at Cromdale “probably after the idea of looting had occurred to them”.

There was a song I had to learn in junior high school, called Fifty Nifty United States Part of the lyrics were the names of all fifty US states in alphabetical order.

I hated the song but I can still recall the states in order, and that has come in handy for a variety of reasons.

I’d like to see the Coyote eat the Road Runner
I’d like to see Knievel blown to bits
I’d like to see Rex Humbard lay his hands upon Maude Aimee
But I’d love to see that Dolly Parton’s tits.

“One for the money
two for the show
three to get ready now go cat, go!”

Well, there’s a puppy in the parlor
And skillet on the stove
And a smelly old blanket
With a Navajo wove
There’s popcorn in the pooper
And a porker in the pot
There’s pie in the pantry
And the coffee’s always hot
There’s sausage in the mornin’
And a party every night
There’s a nurse on duty
If you don’t feel right
There’s a chicken on the table
But you got to say grace
There’s always somethin’ cookin’ at
Old Joe’s place
