Well, I haven’t seen these listed, so I’ll add my $.02

Pink Floyd, The Gunner’s Dream
Pink Floyd, The Final Cut

Actually, most of the music from their Final Cut album.

Others have also mentioned this, but most of Harry Chapin’s music also really gets to me. As does Tears in Heaven.

“and if I’m in, I’ll tell you…”

I rarely cry at songs either but quite a few can make me misty.

Songs I have definitely cried at:

A Little Fall of Rain and Come To Me-Fantine’s Death song from Les Miserables

If I Can’t Love Her from Beauty and the Beast. I know it ends happily but he just sounds so miserable I get all teary eyed for the poor Beast

As for country songs, they’re real tearjerkers, but the only two I recall every getting my eyes watery are two. Goodnight, Sweetheart which is about a man who’s away from home a lot and his wife leaves a sweet little note wishing him goodnight in his coat and he finds it on the plane. And Tender Lie, not sure who it’s by. I want to say the Oakridge Boys, but I do know it’s a definite all guy country group. That one is just about a breakup and how all the person wants is a lie that they’ll get back together and always be in love. Just gets to me I guess.

“Stand by Me,” not because of the lyrics, but because local oldies station KRTH played it a lot about the time I had a 25-year high school reunion. I had unaccountably avoided much contact with others during the reunion–and I still feel bitter towards myself when I hear the song now, about the way I spited myself then. I sure showed them, didn’t I? ☹

I know, especially the part “The rain that brings you here is heaven blessed, the skies begin to clear and I’m at rest, a breath away from where you are, I’ve come home from so far…” "so don’t you fret, I don’t feel any pain… " with her dying breath she is trying to reassure him that it’s ok. This whole CD is emotional. “I dreamed a dream” is so sweet and pathetic. “stars” acccompanies Javert’s suicide. I feel better about myself already.

I can almost hear you sigh by the Rolling Stones makes me tear up too.

'And The Thunder Rolls", Garth Brooks. A guy coming home, his wife is waiting up to meet him because she is worried - and she smells another woman’s perfume.

"And he knows that she knows…
“And the thunder rolls.
And another lover grows cold”

Schmaltz, but good schmaltz.

Or ‘Pie Jesu’ from the Requiem Mass by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I can remember listening to it with my wife on PBS, and sobbing. What C.S.Lewis referred to as 'so beautiful it breaks your heart.

I own the CD, and when I get into work early, I pop it in my CD drive and crank it.

The old popular standard “I Wonder Who’s Kissing Her Now” made me break down, but under rather unusual circumstances.
In high school I knew a girl–I’ll call her Vickie–who was one of few kids at the time who were civil to me. (She is 50, and still in my estimation a wonderful person, although I don’t have much contact with her now.)
Several years after graduation I found a library book about songs, which I checked out. At home, I read lyrics for the song in English and French. I tried to sing the French lyrics–and promptly broke down. I must have subsconsciously remembered that Vickie was in the French class, and that she was in fact already married (four times now!) ☹

This song by John Denver–I think the title is “Back Home Again”–has a line at the end of the second verse:
_…And you felt the baby move again today._
Although I have never been one, I can imagine that this would tug at the heartstrings of any expectant parent, knowing the baby is moving around…

“I Go to Pieces” by Peter & Gordon, alluding to the “Vickie” in a post on this thread from last September. She was, and is, pretty and nice; and the fact that I “lost” her–in a sense–makes me break down when I hear this son. [:(]nth power

“Reuben James” by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, about 1969.
_Reuben James
One dark cloudy day they brought you from the field.
Then your lonely pine box came
Just the preacher, me ands the rain.
I’ll sing one more refrain for Reuben James.
Reuben James
You still walk the furrowed fields of my mind
The faded shirt, the weathered brow
Your calloused hands upon the plow
I loved you then and I love you now
Reuben James._
“Sausalito” by Bobby Russel, 1972.
_…took me to a little club where I saw Lita holding hands
She saw me, a teardop left her cheek and hit her wedding band_

The song that always makes me tear is “I miss you” by Incubus…it always reminds me of my ex boyfriend ::sniff, sigh, sob:: espcailly this part:

You have only been gone ten days,
but already I’m wasting away.
I know I’ll see you again whether far or soon.
But I need you to know that I care and I miss you.

(sorry I don’t know how to do italics or bold or anything fancy…)

and the song “two coins” by Dispatch (One Fell Swoop). I’m not sure why that always chokes me up, because I can’t relate it to my life. Actually, thats probably why it does make me cry…
