The Shinedown cover of _Simple Kind of Man_
Neutral Milk Hotel’s _In the Aeroplane Over the Sea_
Death Cab for Cutie’s _What Sarah Said_ (not just weepy - full blown hysterics)

And an oddity: Flobots’ _Handlebars_ (due to a rather powerful fanvid)

Romance del Enamorado y la Muerte

Tragic 16th century Andalusian song about a guy who meets death, begs for mercy, then runs off to try to seduce his girlfriend. She can’t let him in because her parents are home and he hasn’t officialy proposed. A few puns about opening and joining as he tries to get into his girlfriend’s window via a silk rope; the rope breaks and death comes to claim him. I swear, the song is actually better than it sounds like it would be.

The ONE song I cannot stop listening to. I first heard it in the 80’s, then found it recently on You Tube and I’ve been listening for several days.

The biggest tear jerkers for me are:

**Hey Jupiter** by Tori Amos

> [@](#):
>
> Left my heart soaking wet
> boy, your boots can leave a mess.

**The Blowers Daughter** by Damien Rice

> [@](#):
>
> And so it is
> The shorter story
> No love, no glory
> No hero in her sky

\*\*Divorce Song \*\*by Liz Phair (killin’ me right now, especially)

> [@](#):
>
> And the license said you had to stick around until I was dead
> But if you’re tired of looking at my face, I guess I already am

**I’ll Catch You** by The Getup Kids

> [@](#):
>
> your arms in mine
> any time
> wouldn’t trade anything
> you’re still my everything

**It’s a Motherfucker** by The Eels

> [@](#):
>
> t’s a Motherfucker
> Getting through a Sunday
> Talking to the walls just me again

**Razorblades and Bandaids** by Econoline Crush

> [@](#):
>
> You’d think that you’d notice. that I’ve simply chosen to fade
> One fleeting moment, I would’ve hoped I could stay..
> If I kissed you would you push my face away?

Damn near anything on Dashboard Confessional’s **The Places You’ve Come To Fear The Most** , but especially **Saints and Sailors**

> [@](#):
>
> So don’t be a liar,
> don’t say that “everything’s working”
> when everything’s broken.

\*\*
If I Had Only Known \*\*by Reba McEntire

> [@](#):
>
> f I had only known
> Id never hear your voice again
> Id memorize each thing you ever said

Eva Cassidy’s version of **Fields of Gold** kills me every time.

Good lord, I’m going to go cry myself to sleep now, geez. ☹

_A Child Like Grace_ by Michelle Shocked.

It pulls you you in with its simple, sweet lyrics in the first and second verses:

> [@](#):
>
> A child like Grace, running round the place

Then in the third verse you realise she is talking about a child that has died:

> [@](#):
>
> She will grace our lives no more
> She was only four
> She died before she was five

And then this in the climax:

> [@](#):
>
> Lay me down in a bed of sunflowers
> Overgrown and wild
> I’ve survived my own child

I’ve liked this song for ages, but now I have a 2 year old daughter I find it almost unbearable.

“Pictures of You” by the Cure - I couldn’t listen to this song for years.

“Baby Mine” from the _Dumbo_ soundtrack always made me cry, because it’s played when all the moms in the circus are putting their babies to bed except Dumbo’s mom because she’s in elephant jail. It makes me cry even more now that I have a child of my own.

There’s a new song by a band called the Airborne Toxic Event that I only heard once and so don’t remember the title; I think it was “Sometime After Midnight.” It’s sung in the second person, and it’s about a guy who sees his ex-girlfriend at a club and realizes he still loves her, but she’s moved on. It’s played on the radio several times, but I’m always at work when it comes on, and I switch the station when I realize that song is on because I know I’m going to cry if I don’t.

I came here to post almost the exact same words. I _literally_ can’t listen to that
song. If it comes on the radio I have to switch the station. I can’t hear it. I’ll be
bawling like a baby within seconds and it’ll ruin the rest of my day; just thinking
about my relationship with my father and all the mistakes he’s made and how I’m
making the same mistakes with my own children, and the fact that even though
we are both aware of the problem we’ll never change.
Good, God…I just realized that I haven’t spoken to my father in months and I’ve been so busy with
work lately that I spend almost no time with my own kids. Thanks, DooWahDiddy.
Thanks for ruining my day.

“Mi Terra” de Nino Bravo, famous Spanish Singer who died way too young.

Oh, and if your interested in the amazing history of Pink Floyd and the Syd Barett story, then you can´t help feel sad and awe-struck at the same time when listening to “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”.

I think I’ve posted this before, but if you want embarrassing, the version of The Eagles’ “Desperado” on the [Langley Schools Music Project](http://www.keyofz.com/keyofz/langley/) CD gives me a lump in my throat for some weird reason. I think it’s because it sounds like a little girl singing to her absent father. Weird things happen to you when you become a parent.

Mine is from a musical. “They’ve Got To Be Taught” from South Pacific. Just the thougt of innocents learning to hate makes me dissolve in tears every time.

“If I Could Change The World” EricClapton/Baby Face always gets me too. I always imagine that Clapton is really singing to his lost son. ( I know it doesn’t say that - That’s just my emo interpretation)

The only reason I left this one off is because I’m not embarassed about getting all blubbery over it; my Floyd love knows no bounds. 🙂

If there´s a band that´s worth getting blubbery about its Pink Floyd.

I still miss Syd ☹

It seems like a movie-like story and it´s a great song. 😃

Oddly enough, right when I started reading this thread Bob Dylan’s **Most of the Time** came on.

> [@](#):
>
> I don’t even remember
> what her lips felt like on mine
> Most of the time

> [@malkavia](#):
>
> \*\*Divorce Song \*\*by Liz Phair (killin’ me right now, especially)

This Liz Phair song that gets me (thoughit’s mainly for personal reasons) is **Fuck and Run**

> [@](#):
>
> … I woke up in your arms
> And almost immediately I felt sorry
> 'Cause I didn’t think this would happen again
> No matter what I could do or say
> Just that I didn’t think this would happen again
> ..
> And I can feel it in my bones
> I’m gonna spend another year alone
> It’s fuck and run, fuck and run
> Even when I was seventeen
> Fuck and run, fuck and run
> Even when I was twelve

Another personal one is **Let Me Tell You About Her**

I have that song on a computer I rarely use. I was rearranging computers as part of a spring cleaning earlier this year and I used that computer for the tunes while the others were unplugged.

**Let Me Tell You About Her** came on. I hadn’t heard it for a long time. I sat on the bed and cried for a solid five minutes.

“By My Side” from Godspell- the girls assure Jesus that whatever is to come, they’ll be with him, comparing it to walking with a pebble in the shoe, and having no idea what’s going to go down… and in the meantime, Judas makes his deal with the High Priest.

“Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder, ever since I was pregnant with my daughter. I’d get to the line _Isn’t she lovely made from love_ and burst into noisy, hormonal sobs. Can’t say it’s any better since she’s been born, either. I seriously need to take it off my shuffle to avoid any more public breakdowns.
