And I don’t suppose that The Chipmunks wrote there own songs, either.

Okay, I’ll go now. I think it’s hilarious, though.

THEIR own songs.

Pookah’s cracking up, Pookah needs a holiday.

Maybe I should work that into a song so I could submit it.

**"Strange"** by **R.E.M.** : _“Michael’s nervous and the lights are bright”_

**"Broken Whiskey Glass** by **Jason and the Scorchers** : _“Here lies Jason, strangled by a love that wouldn’t breathe”_

And stretching way back into the mists of time, there’s the classic folk song **“Jesse James”** , written by minstrel **Billy Gashade** upon hearing the news of James’s death:

\*This song was made by Billy Gashade,
As soon as the news did arrive;
He said there was no man with the law in his hand
Who could take Jesse James when alive. \*

I thought it was “Miss Jackson if you’re nasty.”?

Anyway, another R.E.M. song, “Little America” - “Jefferson, I think we’re lost” He was their road manager, IIRC.

“Mucho gusto, me llamo Bradley, I am much hornier than Ron Jeremy!”

Again, if working their own band name in counts, **Blur** lead singer/songwriter \*\*Damon Albarn \*\* purposely stuck in the line: “now life’s a _blur_”, in the Great Escape song “It Could Be You”.

He _did_ work his own name into an actual song on the same album, however, it is an anagram: **Dan Abnormal**.

Speaking of anagrams, there’s "Mr. Mojo Risin’ " (Jim Morrison) in “L.A. Woman” by The Doors.

Enya’s **Orinoco Flow** , the final verse has the following (which completely ruins the song in my opinion):

_We can steer, we can near
with Rob Dickins at the wheel.
We can sigh, say goodbye
Ross and his dependencies._

Of course, technically that’s not namechecking the writer, but it does mention people she works with.

After reading the threads here I got so caught up in ‘Boy, I really hate that Enya did this in \*Orinoco Flow’ \* that I went off-topic a wee bit. Sorry folks.

And in a direct reference, Veruca Salt’s _Volcano Girls_

I told you about the seether before
You know, the one that’s neither or nor
Well here’s another clue if you please
The seether’s Louise

Let’s see…Not exactly hiphop, but The Bloodhound Gang’s lead singer, Jimmy Pop mentions himself in a bunch of songs, _Why’s Everybody Always Picking On Me, Shut Up, Mama Say, One Way, Convoy, Legend In My Spare Time_, and probably many more.
