Songs that reference other songs

In the Jamie Brockett song mentioned earlier are the lines

It was midnight on the sea
The band was playing “Nearer, my God to Thee.”

which makes me wonder if there is a Titanic song that doesn’t reference that one?

Prog/folk band The Morrigan do a “Titanic” song called ‘A Night to Remember’. I don’t think the ships’s band is mentioned at all. Just a minute, I’ll dig out the CD and have a listen…

Nope. It’s there.
*
And the band played
Nearer My God to Thee
Some will perish on the sea…*

T Rex is also referenced in Mott the Hoople’s “All the Young Dudes.”

Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”:
“Fire on the Mountain”, “Run, Boys, Run”
The devil’s in the “House of the Rising Sun”
“Chicken in the Bread Pan (Pickin’ out Dough)”
“Granny, does your dog bite? (No, child, no)”

Surrender by Cheap Trick references KISS (“I put my KISS record on.”)

Well, of course there’s that old standard, “The Ship Titanic:”

Well they lowered down the lifeboats into the raging sea
and the band struck up with “Nearer My God to Thee”
Little children wept and cried as the waves crashed o’er the side
It was sad when the great ship went down

We always sang

"…uncles and aunts little children wet their pants
It was sad when the great ship went down.

Pithy, dontcha think?

“Prove My Love” by the Violent Femmes contains the spoken line “Third verse, same as the first,” which echoes “I’m Henry the Eighth I Am” by Herman’s Hermits (“Second verse, same as the first”).
