Songs That Should've Become Huge Hits, But Didn't

Woohoo! All these people agreeing with me! Finally, my knowledge of Led Zeppelin is helping me! My favorite song by them is “Out On The Tiles” on III. That’s my second favorite Zeppelin album (Physical Graffitti is first), and I can’r figure out how “Immigrant Song” is the only “Best of” song on it. The entire album rocks!
I agree with Spoke-. Van Morrison is great; I love “Come Running” from Moondance, but I think that was the biggest hit from the album, and REM has a lot of ignored songs. I love “Can’t Get There from Here” (and not just 'cause it sounds like they’re saying my name in it, but that is a reason why). “Don’t Fall on Me” is underrated, too.

Interesting. I always interpreted this song to be about my hometown, which the REM boys were known to visit on occasion. The giveaway is the following:

“Lawyer Jeff” is a friend of the band who is from my hometown.

Where in the song do you hear your name, ThisYearsGirl?

There are about a dozen great songs by “The Tragically Hip” which were monster hits in Canada, but sank without a trace in the U.S. Songs like “New Orleans is Sinking”, “Blow at High Dough”, “Boots or Hearts”, “Locked in the Trunk of a Car”, and many, many more.

Colin James is another Canadian who’s had huge hits in Canada and can’t get noticed in the U.S., even though he opened for Stevie Ray Vaughan for two of his tours, and Stevie said he was the best young guitarist to come along in a long, long time. His songs are very commercial, and are really geared towards radio. But he can’t get a break in the lower 48.
