I am a city girl born and raised in northeast Detroit. When singing along to that song, I make it thus: “Just a city boy…born and raised in Canada…” As that is where South Detroit would be if it existed. ---

When I was a wee outlier, growing up in the vicinity or the Ventura freeway listening to that song on the radio, everybody ‘knew’ that Alligator lizards would jump out of the tress and land on your head. Just sayin’. ---
