I’ll throw a couple of Kenny Rogers songs out there. Ruby Don’t Take Your Love to Town (about a crippled Vietnam vet whose contemplating shooting his cheating wife then committing suicide) and Coward of the County. White and old, well maybe, but actually when you look at the hip-hop oeuvre then its clear that pretty much everything that has been quoted so far is mild - and yet this stuff is currently flying. If you want homophobic, misogynistic, drug and violence laden bullshit, then you don’t have to look too far - I’d go as far as also adding there is a strong element of racism too. ---

Sure, maybe pop music is a minefield of obscenity and I’m just not paying attention. But I’ll bet you still couldn’t release a song called _Thank Heaven for Little Girls_ by a group called The Dick Hyman Trio. ---
