# Songs we sing our dogs

Well, those with cats are having a grand ol’ time, and I figured dog owners should get in on it. I’ll start.
I have an original tune and hand motions that go with these lyrics, by the way.
In my voice:
From the sniffer to the pooper I love you,
From the sniffer to the pooper I love you,
From the sniffer to the pooper I love you,
And every hair in between.
In dog’s “voice:” Don’t forget the tail…
In my voice: IIIIIII won’t!
In my voice:
From the puddies to the floppies I love you,

And every hair in between.
In dog’s voice: Don’t forget the wiskers…
In my voice: IIIIIII won’t!
(Puddies are feet and floppies are ears.)
Of course, since she’s a hound, Hound Dog by Elvis, except the instead of “You ain’t no friend of mine” I sing “And you sure are a friend of mine.”
And finally, there’s the little jingo-type ditty entitled “Butt Scratch” that gets sung when scratching the part on the back where the tail meets the body:

So sorry, but I read this as “from the _puddles_ to the _floppies_” - meaning oopses.
Shows you my mind is still on puppyhood of my doggie Casey.
I love to play patty cake with her and often sing the lullaby to her, but say “close your big brown puppy eyes” instead.
Okay, so I’m a big softy. Gotta problem with dat??!??

Well, the dog to whom these were sung has long since passed on, but they’re just too classic to let go. The first one is to a relatively obscure tune found [here](http://www.bellman.net/texter/fs28.html) (click on “Musik” for the tune itself):
_Pluggy is a puppy dog
She’s black and white and smelly.
When she’s good I give her treats
And rub her on the belly.
When she’s bad
I get mad
And lock her in the closet.

The second one is to the tune of " 'Tis a Gift to Be Simple":

That should be enough
for Pluggy, I should think.
But if a creepy cockroach should Pluggy see,
Then it will get eaten, I guarantee.
Don’t - eat - the creepy crawly bugs!

I used to sing to my dogs lots more than I do now. Lessee:
To my dog Bouncer (sung to the Gamera theme from MST3K):
Bouncer-y!

Bouncer boy is really neat
He’s got little puppy feet!
We all love you Boun-cer boy!
I used to kinda chant this to my dog Sasha, who loves to swim:
Little dog, big dog
Swimmin’ in the water

Swimmin’ like an otter.
(It’s a take-off on something I heard in a song once, but I don’t remember what it was.)

_Spuddy-buddy_ in place of “Rubber Ducky” when I give Spud a bath.
'Course, when I give him a bath I’m also usually drunk and singing along while blasting the soundtrack to “The Little Mermaid,” so things do get a little interesting in my house from time to time.

I do this too! Usually with “Tino-beano,” “little buddy,” or “Weimar-ducky” instead of “Rubber Ducky” when I give my little pupster [a bath](http://pages.sbcglobal.net/troub/tino/Aug/pages/DSCN1451.htm).

I am really enjoying reading these!
Here’s another one I remembered last night. It’s sort of a New Wave Devo-ish meets the B52s sort of thing:
Take…the puppy out

NOW!
It goes on like that forever, or, at least until I take the dog out.

Oh boy, I thought that I was the only one who sang something to the dog based on “Rubber Ducky.” In our case it’s

Puppy boy!
I’m going to _looooooove_ informing Mr. tlw (which this thread as my cite!) that I’m not the only one engaging in this kind of behavior.
I’m probably the only one who sings “If you’re happy and you know it, clap your paws” though, huh?

Yep, that’s my dog. When I sing to him, he looks more like [this](http://pages.sbcglobal.net/troub/tino/DSCN1702.JPG).
I take too many pictures of my dog. Damn digital camera makes it too easy 😃

Oh yes! At least 3/4 of all digital pictures snapped in our house are of our cute critters. Often our sleeping cute critters. Do we really need thousands of pictures of our sleeping cute critters? No, but how can we possibly stop?

We are into non-rhyming songs in our house, but trust me, they have to be sung, that’s the fun of it:
- Maggie has a giant dinosaur head

My dog died about two months ago, but when I was bathing her I’d sing “Washin’ the Dog” in the style of Muddy Waters’s “Walkin’ the Dog.” Well, actually I sang it in the style of the Rolling Stones’ version of “Walkin’ the Dog.”
_And if you don’t know how to do it
I’ll show you how to wash the dog…_
She seemed to dig it.

I don’t sing to my dogs, for no good reason I give them life-guidance in my best Jesse Jackson voice:
“Go to college,
Get some knowledge!”
“The man will not heed.
If you cannot read!”
“Don’t be a fool,
Get back to school!”
They seem to enjoy it but my wife objects as the dogs only speak Spanish.

I scare myself (and others) when I sing so I didn’t sing to my dog much, but I tell you, she could do a rendition of _Moon River_ that brought tears to my eyes.

My dog sings with me.
I start off with a low hum , sorta like “hmmmm”, and then my dog lets out a deep rumble as he breathes out… we can keep this up for 15 minutes without getting tired! He has to be in the mood though…

My best friend sings to his mother’s dog and she (the dog) sings along with him, but only to one song. He takes the theme song from _Flipper_ and changes the name to Missy and she joins right in with him, in almost perfect harmony. Sadly, we cannot get her to join in on any other song and if we sing _Flipper_ using the original lyrics, she acts insulted and ignores us.
No, we’re not 15; I’m 34 and he’s 48. We just act 15 most of the time
