Songs where the meaning is completely obvious

Bloodhound Gang: I Hope You Die

Ummmmm…ok

This may be deeper than I can perceive.

When I first heard the Apology Song by The Decemberists, I was sure he was using “bicycle” as a metaphor for ‘girlfriend’. Nope, turns out he was singing about a real bicycle.

Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?

I assume that the obvious meaning you’re ascribing to “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” is that a little kid made a crayon drawing of one of her classmates surrounded by sparkly stars? Because, I mean, the drawing actually exists.

Puddle of Mudd She Fucking Hates Me

Puff the Magic Dragon really is about a little boy and his dragon.

Peter,Paul and Mary* have spent 40 years constantly denying that it was about drugs, but people still refuse to believe them.

(* now deceased)

“I Won’t go Huntin With ya Jake But I’ll Go Chasin Wimmin”

“Stupid Hoe” by Nicki Minaj and “Bitch Better Have My Money” by Rihanna.

“Rosie” by Jackson Browne. At least, it seems pretty obvious to me.

Well, that’s the whole thing, innit? It’s NOT supposed to be about THAT, because you can’t write songs about THAT.

And almost every AC/DC song has “plausable deniability”. Let’s Get it Up is about sailing, Big Balls is about well attended gala events. (Givin the Dog a Bone, well…)

If you’re saying Squeeze Box is about an accordion, then yes, the meaning is obvious.

I thought this thread was about obvious songs, not double entendre songs,

well quite, shame on you lumpy.

A much better example is Prince and “International Lover” clearly a song about someone who loves to offer a tip-top aerial experience for the discerning customer. Basically it is a funky version of “those magnificent men”.

Thinking about the username.
Thinking about the post.
That’s just wrong.

Bloodhound Gang “Bad Touch”
Kiss, “I Was Made for Loving You”
Kiss, “Let’s Put the X in Sex”
Come to think of it, did Kiss ever do anything subtle?

Men At Work “It’s a Mistake”
Men At Work “Down Under” (if you are unfamiliar with Australian slang, some things may puzzle you, but overall, the song’s meaning is pretty obvious)

Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Born in the U.S.A. - Bruce Springsteen
American Woman - Guess Who

Three clear anti-Vietnam, anti-war songs that are sometimes used as pro-America anthems. Ugh!

On the other hand, here’s the right way to turn and anti-war song into to a positive pro-America message. Jefferson Airplane, with Gracie Slick! in weeks after 9/11 singing Volunteers as tribute to the NYC Firefighters. https://youtu.be/CNFXSVVVuj0?t=403 “Fight back!”

But Big Balls made the cut…
