But it’s not about American women, it’s about all the big city American women they met on tour in the US. To the band, they were a whole new experience from small town Canada. At the time, war machines and ghettos would have been hot topics for big city women of college age. The colored lights line is just a variation of the small town boy being confused by the big city lights.
