For me it’s

[Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeMFqkcPYcg), The Eurythmics, and

[I Wear My Sunglasses At Night](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upwY47g-uP0), Corey Hart

Usually, when the second one comes on, I’ll even start singing the former. :smack:

How about you?

Good one **Chefguy** , I don’t think I get faked out anymore. Trying to think back. Hum, let us see.

“How Soon is Now” by the Smiths
“Hippy Chick” by Soho
Now I can tell which is which, but initially when I heard “Hippy Chick” I thought it was The Smiths tune.

“Never Knew Love Like This Before” Stephanie Mills and Madonna’s “Borderline”.
A few times I have been fooled by the intros of Elton John’s “Your Song” and “Tiny Dancer”.
“Boys Are Back in Town” by Thin Lizzy and “Reelin’ In The Years” by Steely Dan.
“Sensual Seduction” by Snoop Dogg(now Snoop Lion) and “What You Got” by Colby O’Donis ft. Akon.

I can see how at first hear “Santeria” by Sublime and “Under the Bridge” by Red Hot Chili Peppers may fool someone, but soon you’ll hear the difference. The latter’s intro is longer.

“Train in Vain” by the Clash and “Stupid Girl” by Garbage.
There is an America song which I always think would turn out to be a George Harrison song.

There’s a Guns 'n Roses song whose intro sounds exactly like a Cure song. I forget what either of them are though.

“Signs” by the Five Man Electrical Band always fakes me out with the intro, although there’s nothing specific that it reminds me of.

“Howlin” by the Black Keys always has me hoping that it’s “Feeling Good” by the Sheepdogs, but it rarely is.

It _is_ the Smiths tune, they sampled it so you can’t really be blamed for that one.

\<snip\>

I’m guessing “Sister Golden Hair” sounds like “My Sweet Lord.”

Little River Band’s “Lady” has an intro that always throws me off but I can’t tell you what song it sounds like.

I suppose an obvious one would be:
Under Pressure by David Bowie & Queen and
Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice

When the music starts, I think its the song _867-5309/Jenny_ by Tommy Tutone, but it turns out to be just the riff Bruce Springsteen ripped off from them in his song _Radio Nowhere_. (What an asswipe!)

THIS. Every damn time.

Just today one occurred to me: “It Was a Very Good Year” by Frank Sinatra always reminds me of “Superstar” by the Carpenters

I haven’t heard either song too many times, so I was very wrong , but the other day I heard Louis Armstrong’s “La Vie En Rose” and was ready for it to be “A Kiss To Build a Dream On.”

I know this isn’t quite what you’re looking for, but I’m sure my friend isn’t the only person that bought Madonna’s album Music for the _Music_ and _Ray of Light_ only to try and return it because it was skipping on [one of the tracks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLFWRDsx5AI).

Even now, I’m sure people reload the video if they’re not familiar with it.

It’s just the first few bars but I always get faked out by Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and John Lennon’s “Imagine”. Even when it was Oasis playing, hearing the intro made me think, “Oh, they’re going to cover Imagine”.

I used to think the opening riff of George Harrison’s “What Is Life” was the start of a B.T.O. song.

Sometimes Metallica’s “For whom the bell tolls” and AC/DC’s “Hells Bells” trick me and there’s also a Smashing Pumpkins song with a crunchy guitar intro that makes me think it’s a Rage Against the Machine song.

Actually it was Cherub Rock and a red hot chili peppers song, whoops! The guitar intro totally sounds like a John Frusciante lick.

Actually that’s not quite true: I sometimes think it’s going to be "Gimme Some Lovin’ " when the organ comes in.

I’d say it’s intentional, but the intro to Bad Religion’s “The Resist Stance” sounds a lot like Rush’s “Working Man”. Being more of a Bad Religion fan, it’s actually the Rush song that fakes me out even though it’s almost forty years older.

There’s also an episode of Daria where I swear the first few chords of Blink-182’s Dammit play, but then it goes off into something different. Really psyches me out. I presume that originally Dammit was used but when released on DVD they couldn’t get the rights. But in most other episodes it’s just replaced with fairly generic music which doesn’t sound like anything in particular.

Slightly off topic, but I can’t easily imagine both the John William’s Superman theme and Indiana Jones theme. Once one is in my head, I cannot for the life of me remember how the other goes. I can tell them apart easily when I hear them, though.
