**Coulbean** ’s post about Dylan covers reminded me of “If not for you” by George Harrison and the more famous version by Olivia Newton John.

And a slight nitpick here, but wasn’t the Kingsmens’ version of “Louie Louie” actually a cover version itself?

> My dad quite literally filled a CD with _Ring of Fire_ covers once. I think he had about 16 of them.

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

> I have an album called “Pachelbel’s Greatest Hit” - It a collection of vey different versions of Pachelbe’s Canon (baroque music). That counts as an album full of cover versions, I think.

I remember reading a source, I think it was the liner notes to an album of baroque organ music released in the 1960’s, that claimed that Pachelbel’s canon was probably the most recorded song in history with well over 10,000 versions. I believe it. While I’ve still yet to find my third “Yesterday” (it’s been apparently recorded over 2,000 times), every damn “Canon” I hear is always a different version than the one I heard before.
