So I don’t know much about drums. When asked to name a few songs with drums that I liked I was only able to produce Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin. So when I get home from work I’d like to get a playlist of songs going that have some notable drumming performances. So what songs would go into “The Ultimate Drumming Playlist™?” I’ll ask the same questions about Bass Guitars next week. ---

_Bonzo’s Montreux_ was the first one I thought of from the Zep Coda re-released version actually. Though I’d say Rush’s _Tom Sawyer_’s not bad. And the Grateful Dead’s _Rhythm Devils_ are always fun (If you like 10-20 min drum solos that is). ---

I like these: Elvis Costello & The Attractions - “No Action”, “Lipstick Vogue” Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians - “Brenda’s Iron Sledge” (Live version from _Gotta Let This Hen Out!_) The dB’s - “Black And White” The Clash - “Lost In The Supermarket” Buzzcocks - “I Don’t Mind” Husker Du - “Reoccurring Dreams” R.E.M. - “Wolves, Lower”, “Harborcoat” The Feelies - “Crazy Rhythms” Gang Of Four - “Ether” New Order - “Ceremony”, “Blue Monday” The Pogues - “The Sick Bed Of Cuchulainn”, “Sally MacLennane” The Who - “I Can See For Miles”, “Cobwebs And Strange” The Beatles - “Rain”, “A Day In The Life” Talking Heads - “Burning Down The House” Rush - “Vital Signs” (more subtle than his usual bashing style) And I agree about “Fool In The Rain”, though in general I’m not a Bonham fan. Tons of great stuff in the James Brown and Fela Kuti catalogs, too. If you really want to hear great drums, though, you should go to the jazz genre. ---

Is “In the Air Tonight” too obvious? “Tusk” by Fleetwood Mac. “Hazard” by Richard Marx “Someone Saved my Life Tonight” by Elton John And I’ve always liked that little unexpected rat-tat-tat in the first verse of “Living on A Thin Line” by The Kinks. ---

I always think of Fleetwood Mac as the ultimate Bass/Drum rock band. Besides Tusk, try “Go Your Own Way” or “The Chain” from Rumours. ---
