In Billy Swan’s “I Can Help”, there’s applause at the end of the song. The story is that Swan had brought his dog to the studio, and that the dog was tugging at his pant leg as he sang – the applause is from his band, for making it through the take.
(The Youtube clip above is from the album track, which has a longer ending. You can hear the applause at around the 3:35 mark.)
Turns out there’s a TVtropes page on this.
Damn.
Damn!
I still got one. Right at the very end of King Crimson’s genius album Lark’s Tongues in Aspic, as the last Mellotron tones fade out, there’s a voice that says (I thought) “Can I get one more image then”, but is said in that link to be “Can I do one more immediately?” - possibly Bill Bruford.
Oh, and there’s an Osibisa track from one of their first two albums, where (much like part of ‘Andy Warhol’ above) the band and the sound engineer are waiting for each other to say they’re ready and start the track. Much forced laughter ensures.
The Beach Boys may well be the reigning champions in the studio chatter department, which is strange considering how much time Brian spent making those records. Along with the others mentioned, I will add the chatter and cough heard during the organ solo on “Wendy.”
