This morning I had the misfortune of being stuck in traffic, well stuck longer than usual. I had my two best friends in the car and we got talking about songs with stupid lyrics. I was always fond of that song ‘life’ by Des’ree. I was just wondering what songs my fellow dopers could come up with in the stupid lyircs front!? 😃 ---

I’ve always thought that “Green Eyed Lady” by Sugarloaf was a real bunch of horseshit, as far as lyrics go. I imagine it that the band got really high and started grooving, and came up with this really sweet bass hook and did some cool organ work. Then someone said “That’s awesome man, let’s record it. But it needs some words!” and someone else said “I’ve got this awesome poem I wrote last week when I was totally spaced on LSD. We should use that!” And thus “Green Eyed Lady” was written. ---

Pretty much ANY song by America has stupid lyrics, but especially “Tin Man:” “But Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man That he didn’t, didn’t already have And Cause never was the reason for the evening Or the tropic of Sir Galahad” WTF?? 😕 ---

Lorenz Hart is a fine lyricist generally, but he really messed up with “Babes in Arms”: “They call us babes in arms but we are babes in armor. They laugh at babes in arms but we’ll be laughing far more.” “Armor” rhyming with “far more”? That’s probably the most strained rhyme I’ve ever heard (not counting those strained for comic effect). ---

For me, it just seems like he’s saying that he doesn’t need constant “witty” chatter and talk of “important things” to be impressed by, just someone that “gets” him. Then again, he might have just been drunk. ---
