I enjoyed the third episode. My only complaint is how short it was. If you take out the very long recap, the opening credits, and the end credits, it can’t have been much more than 15 minutes.
Ringo sometimes sings in an American accent. What’s wrong with accents in songs?
It’s cringe, like the young folks say, to sing in an accent you did not grow up on and you don’t really have command of.
Many singers default to a generalized sorta American accent. Keith Urban uses a Country twang, despite being a Kiwi.
I disagree, this certainly is not “A song you can’t play today”. If it bothers you, fine, but few others complain about this.
Tonight’s the Night is pretty oogy, too.
No one has mentioned “They’re Coming to Take Me Away Ha Ha” by Napoleon XIV. It ran up the charts pretty fast, and down even faster.
Another would be “Mr. Turnkey” by Zagar & Evans (“In the Year 2525” fame), featuring an attempt at suicide in prison.
An extremely white American guy singing in an Afro-Caribbean accent about climbing coconut trees in Trinidad is, while not blackface-level offensive, still pretty tacky by modern standards.
Please tell me you understand why a British guy singing in an American accent and an American singing in an Afro-Caribbean accent are not the same.
