> “Isn’t it ironic?” No, it isn’t (which is kind of ironic). Nothing in the song is ironic. Rain on your wedding day may suck, but it’s not ironic.

Somehow this doesn’t bother me, though I’m generally pretty pedantic. Here’s proof:

> And as the plane crashed down he thought “Well isn’t this nice…”

That fits even the strictest definition of irony, so you’re statement that nothing in the song is ironic is wrong. How’s that for some pedantry?

There’s only one song that angers me enough to get a rise out of me. There are a lot of songs that I find bad or annoying, but only one makes me have to leave the room immediately or cover my ears at the sound of it. I didn’t even know what the song was called, so I Googled, and when I clicked on the url to post it here, just the sound of three chords sent me into insta-kill mode. Anyway, it’s called “Bubbly” by some whore named Colbie Callait\*.

[I cannot believe how much I hate this song](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7-xsMVg29Y). It makes me angry when I hear it.

Someone had to point out the error in this statement, so I figured it’d be me. I know it was a typo, but I couldn’t resist.

\*She’s probably not a whore.

In no particular order:

Proud To Be An American by Lee Greenwood
Night Moves by Bob Seger
Sister Christian by Night Ranger
I Will Alway Love You by Whitney Houston
Jeremy by Pearl Jam

I could list lots more, but those 5 (as the OP requested) are definitely at or near the top of my “Don’t Ever Want To Hear Them Again” list.

The current crop of songs that sample from 70’s tunes and get my hopes up thinking “Oh, hey, I’m gonna hear (for example) ‘Werewolves of London’…”, but no it’s some other dope who just lifted the music.

Mlle Perry’s “Firework” song is way over exposed but the song itself doesn’t inspire hatred in me. Rather, almost everything in the accompanying video seems like extraordinarily poor advice and a good way to get your ass kicked. Or die out on the sidewalk.

Whoa. I heartily endorse this list (well, a few were from my list). It’s ironic (heh) to me, though, that I really like Dolly Parton’s original “I will Always Love You”.

Aye, Dolly’s original version (she wrote the song, ya know) is fine. It’s specifically Whitney’s version that I can’t stand.

Speaking of Whitney, I hate pretty much every version of the American National Anthem performed at “major” events after Whitney did it in the Super Bowl. No, hot new artist of the moment, you don’t need to draw out every note interminably. Just sing the damn song.

American Pie - all versions, any time, can’t reach the radio dial fast enough to change stations.
Anything by Harry Chapin.
I Will Always Love You screeched by Whitney Houston.
And about 98% of all Country music and about 99.9% of Rap.

I, uh, apparently like some (well, a lot) of hated music.

I can’t stand James Taylor. Don’t have any problem with the wuss-rock James Taylor wannabe’s like Seals and Crofts, Randy Vanwormer, etc, but I cannot _stand_ James Taylor. And he was discovered by the Beatles! (well, George Harrison).

I thought Weird Al’s take on it was pretty good. The creativity in his lyrics overrode the played-out-itude of the melody. The video is not bad, either.

“Bad Medicine” by Bon Jovi.
“Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith.

Two of the sloppiest, laziest, boring-est rock songs in the history of the world.

Man, a lot of great contenders here! I think that Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.” is a no-brainer. I got stuck in a little bar in Decatur, IL once several years ago on karaoke night, which is a horror unto itself. But it seemed like about every third “performer” had to trot this one out. Scarred for life.

To go with something a little more current - Train’s “Hey Soul Sister” if for no other reason than even I, who rarely if ever listens to the radio, heard that song at least 16 times a day last year.

-R.E.M’s [It’s the End of the World](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0GFRcFm-aY). Whenever I hear the phrase “end of the world,” I get this shit stuck in my head and I want to MAKE it be the end of the world so that I never have to hear it again.

-Anything by Nickelback. Yes, I realize that’s cliche for this board, but I don’t care. I had to hear these morons all day long at my old job, so I think my hatred is more than justified. I hate that singer’s voice so very much.

-Actually, make that anything that played on “Subway radio” when I worked there. I don’t even remember what all was on there off the top of my head, but if you played me one of the songs, I’d know it right away. And so would you, because I’d be stabbing you in the throat.

-Oh god I can’t believe I went this far into the list without thinking of [Daughters](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZLbUIa7exE) by John Mayer. I think I repressed all memory of it, and my spitting rage at the last few items on the list accidentally made it resurface. I seriously want to find everyone involved in recording and publishing this piece of crap and punch them in the face. My computer hates it too: YouTube crashed as it was playing.

I know that’s only four, but I’ll leave it at that for now. I’ll probably think of more later.
