Sonnyboy Perdue fighting overturned gay marriage amendment

Republicans in Georgia must be near-orgasmic. Now they can put the gay marriage amendment on the ballot and energize their base again for the fall elections.

And this the real reason Perdue wants to call a special session to get an amendment on the ballot. He faces a tough re-election challenge from the Democrats in the fall. This ruling gives him the opportunity to grandstand on an issue that will get the religious right out to the voting booth. It also gives him the opportunity to put the Democratic candidate on the spot by demanding to know where they stand on the issue.

Would Perdue feel the same way if the “will of the people” were to deprive Christians of the right to marry one another?

I’ve had some intuitive understanding of this (on the whole issue, not just marriage), but hearing you articulate it just made me feel a whole lot better about everything. It gives me one more reason to be hopeful. Thanks.

Y’know, very often on this board when I or others of a liberal bent occasionally vent our frustration with the stupid scumbags who keep voting in Republican scumbags on the basis of gay marriage or fear of terrorism of whatever other stupid piece of shit idiocy is currently in vogue, conservatives are wont to reply that we’re being stupid because that’ll just piss off the stupid scumbags.

But, really. We see asshole Republican politicians like Purdue whipping up the stupid scumbags of the right all the time. Essentially, the conservatives are maintaining that it’s unwise to publicly comment on the stuff they do right before their very eyes. I guess they must be Orwellian conservatives.

Aw, ouch…
