Second, I don’t think it’s too late to save the PS3 for certain values of “save” and this is the move that can do it. They’re probably going to settle into roughly an XBox level position in the market which isn’t great but isn’t out of the game either.

I’ve been saying this for a year and a half now, but Sony is done. There’s no way they will pull out of third place this gen and no price cut can help them. The 360 is too entrenched… much like the PS2 was last gen by the time the PS2/GameCube were released last time.

Fourth, given the aggressive pricing from both competitors I’d guess we’ll see a Wii price drop for Christmas as well. Perhaps one bundled with Wii Sports Resort…

Nintendo has already said such a bundle will not be happening this year, if ever. I’d also bet good money that a price drop is not in the cards for this year. But they will drop the price (by a significant margin) in 2010.

If they’d dropped to that price last year, this might have made me consider a PS3, but I already bought my 360, so sorry Sony, too little, too late.

Pretty much. I bought my Xbox last June. And now I have a Wii, too. So no PS3 for me.

They’re about on schedule for it, though since Nintendo just ignores the usual price drop rumors instead of busily sending out press releases announcing that they’re not dropping the price they’re not planning on it in the immediate future. If it happens (and my guess is it will given that Nintendo is going to see more pressure in Japan where the corporate attention is) then it isn’t happening before November.
