As for changing, I don’t plan on changing this aspect of myself, because I’m _happy_ with the current model of “someone says something bigoted, I call them out on it.” I’m not starting threads comparing criticism to torture or 1984 or whatever. You seem really unhappy with how things stand. My suggestions are solution-oriented. But I’m not actually sure you want things to change enough to effect that change, so I’m out. ---

Yet, one of the responses seemed to indicate that some opinions are unacceptable simply because, evidently, the person responding didn’t like it. I remember a discussion about a year ago revolving around steroid abusers, baseball records, and the Hall of Fame. I’m firmly against not only inducting them, but I’m even against acknowledging the records they set. They should be expunged, and Henry Aaron recognized as the home run king. Anyway, I received a number of thoughtful responses that made good points. My final post in that thread contained all the quotes and acknowledgements that they were worthy thoughts. However, my final sentence was: “Yeah, BUT I JUST DON’T LIKE THEM!” That’s my opinion. As an opinion, it is part of what we are here. ---

If someone posts something that is sexist, racist, bigoted, etc. they _should_ be called out on it. “It’s just my opinion!” is not a free pass. ---

Of course, but her post wasn’t “sexist, racist, or bigoted”. I still feel that this is “much ado about nothing” but, again, it’s just my opinion. Opinions are like noses because everyone has one. ---

Moderating: You can talk about your ignore list in the pit. Not in MPSIMS. This thread is wobbling on the edge of pit territory, and perhaps belongs there. I think it’s best to close it before it goes to far over the edge. ---
