I love to hear my wife laugh. The sound of her smile over a phone. The sound of my dog snoring. Or her wimper-whine when she knows when we are going to the park. The sound of a roaring campfire. All the morning wake up sounds while laying in a tent. ---

I love the sound of mourning doves cooing outside my window in my mom’s house. I love the sound of my fiance snoring or laughing. I also love to listen to him talk when I’ve got my ear pressed against his chest - he has a deep voice and it rumbles. I love the sound of thunderstorms. And during Christmas, I love the sound of the fanfare before the carols start in the church. It’s the only time I ever go to church, and the fanfare sounds exactly like the beginning of a Monty Python episode, and my sister always elbows me in the ribs because I can’t stop snorting and laughing. ---

A real ego boost.[/li][li]The traffic at night whizzing by on the parkway. From my backyard, it sounds like a river.[/li][li]People with great radio voices. Alison Steele & Jonathan Schwartz are the first to that come to mind. The former departed several years ago (but I still listen on old airchecks) and the latter I listen to WNYC & XM.[/li][li]Pianos. With the exception of chopsticks.[/li][li]Rain. Especially at night hitting the skylights.[/li][li]Sound FX in big budget films.[/li][li]This one’s on the house.[/li]Can I buy you a drink?[/ol] ---

I really like hearing the sound of a lawn mower in the distance. I like the sound of my kids laughter. I like the sounds of summer. ( crickets chirping ) I like the crackling sound of wood being burned in a fire pit while camping out. I like the sound of my hot tub jets being turned on. I like the soft humming of the dryer when its on. I loved the sounds of a new born baby nursing. A little grunting noise. ---

I like the sound of shears cutting through fabric (shuurrrt). It’s the potential of the project to be made, the sound of progress toward being able to sew away. There’s a line in “Reality Bites” where Troy is talking about the things he enjoys, one of them being “when laughter turns into a cackle” and I love that second laugh from anyone I know, but particularly one friend who doesn’t laugh too often. There’s that cackle, that hearty, real, almost uncontrollable laugh that comes after some introductory regular laughter. I can hear it in my mind’s eye (ear). It’s rare and a treasure. And the sound of a wild summer thunderstorm when the windows are open and you can feel the excitement of the weather. ---

Trains in the distance. Idling locomotives up close. Fighter jet noise. Ordinary thunderstorms. My kid laughing. Waterfalls. My dog’s happy noises. Falling snow. Cows mooing. Lingerie hitting the floor 😉🆒 ---

A whole bunch of flags waving. Anyone who’s been to the Washington Monument will know what I mean. The sound of jumping into a pile of leaves. The shutter-click of a professional quality camera. The sound of pushing in the pop-up bubble on a bottle of iced tea. A whole lot of people tap dancing in unison. The sound that a really, really good rifle drill squad makes. ---

The unrestrained laughter of young children. The younger and less restrained, the better. Rain. The sound of waves breaking on a shallow reef (or on anything really). The collective sound of the bargirls when you walk slowly past a group of "Bar beer"s in Pattaya or Patong. A beautiful, lone female voice singing sweetly. A fart that makes a surprising sound. Especially the ones that seems to ask you a question and you feel compelled to answer back. ---

I need to add another one, too (vunderbob’s posting just reminded me). I used to play varsity volleyball. One of the most satisfying sounds in the world is when you go up for a spike and your hand contacts the ball right on the sweet spot and you hear the crack of your palm smacking it, then the woosh as it zings into the other court while all the players on that side dive to get to it. Then it slams hard into the floor when no one reaches it. Ah, almost better than sex. ---
