That wonderful 'sssrritch" noise thats made when an acoustic guitar player changes chords and their fingers are dragged across the length of the neck. Rain on a tin roof or awning The train horn blowing in the distance at night Lawn mowers in summer and even though I hate to say it, (and I’ll probably catch flack for it) that absolute silence in the sky that week after 9-11. I would stand outside just looking up and around, and it was just so quiet. Something we’ve never had all of our lives, and hopefully never will again. I live near a major airport, so I am very used to the constant sound, but that silence that week, made me feel like I had time traveled back a hundred years. ---

That _Rustle-rustle-rustle-rustle-WHOOMP_ sound that a sail makes as it fills with air. A perfectly struck golf ball from _My_ club. My son laughing/saying I love you/talking to himself. The creaking you hear when you are in the middle of a stand of Pine trees. Outdoors when it’s completely silent. A [Loon](http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/Infocenter/Song/h0070so.wav) in the distance. (How very Minnesotan of me) A bit weird, but the sound of _walking away_ from a waterfall. How it gets quieter and quieter until it’s gone. ---

Cicadas singing loudly enough to make me forget the ringing in my ears. Fishing line zizzing off the reel as the lure flies over the water. The crack of a wooden bat on a baseball in late spring. The sound of a pool ball falling into the pocket. ---

Birds calling to each other outside my window. My husband’s voice, especially when he giggles. My cats purring. One of my cats purrs loud enough to be heard on the other side of the room. Cicadas on a summer evening. ---

My children’s voices, especially when they are laughing. Can’t imagine anything more beautiful. The sound rain when it first starts hitting the ground at the beginning of a good thunderstorm, espeically when its been dry out for a time. The crack of lightning. a crackling fire. the noises of a early summer evening out in the country. ---

Like so many on this thread, I love the sound of a cat purring. Also, The staticky scratch and pop of an old record when the needle comes down. A trumpet with a mute in. Tires on gravel. My husband’s voice, especially when he’s talking to the cats. A brass choir. The coluratura parts in “The Magic Flute.” Placido Domingo. Baseball on the radio, especially from old Tiger Stadium. You could hear the pitches hit the catchers’ mitts. Amazing. The groan my sister’s Newfoundland makes if you rub his ears. Corduroy pants legs rubbing together. Tree frogs. ---
