When my gas tank is 9/10 empty and I’m parked at the gas pump and I open the gas cap and this light exhale from the tank breathes out, starting with a low hiss and ending soon after with a final faint gasp. That is my favorite sound in the whole world. ---

The purr of a sleeping kitty cat. The primeval yawp of a bass saxophone. The NBC chimes on old radio air shots, back when they were played on some preposterous automatic music box that rendered them ever so slightly out of tune. A freight train passing through at 2:00 in the morning 8 blocks away from the house I grew up in. Carol Costello teasing her weatherman early mornings on CNN. The barely perceptible _thunk_ issuing once a minute from the old-fashioned synchronized schoolroom clocks. ---

cats purring dogs, and that contented groan/grunt they make when they are happy and about to fall asleep the chatter my chickens make when they “talk” to me distant thunder the far away whistle of a train at night the wind in the pines babies laughing ---

A gentle summer breeze right after sunset. My dog sighing right before she falls asleep. The roaring of a waterfall/crashing ocean waves. Leaves rustling. City traffic (I am strange.) The pitter-patter of summer rain against my window. I just looked over this list and realized what a nature freak I am. :dubious: ---
