In my quest to burn out my iPod with horrifying custom playlists, I’ve got a new soundtrack mix started—songs for a Robot War. That is, songs thematically appropriate for a war with robots, between robots, or heavily involving robots. Steam belching automata would also qualify. The appeal, of course, is completely obvious. Now, I’ve already got a few songs chosen, as follows, but I’m always up for a few more. Any suggestions? For comedy relief, there’s always James Kochalka Superstar’s [Monkey versus Robot](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1Csif5l_6c). For a sentimental introduction, perhaps as the incident that sparked the war in the first place, how about Grandaddy’s [Jed the Humanoid](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBR1G550m64). I don’t know if it’s still possible to track them down, but some of the tracks from John Bergin’s Music for Hammering are appropriate, such as _The Rust of Mars_. If mecha-appropriate music counts, there’s _Stronger Than All_ and _Riders of the Storm_ by Hammerfall. And the song _Through the Fire and the Flames_ by Dragonforce has become inextricably linked to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan in my mind, thanks to a certain AMV. ---

I think that line was sampled from Futurama, the music and lyrics are [here](http://www.actionext.com/names_m/machinae_supremacy_lyrics/attack_music.html). Strangely enough for a robot war, nothing from [this album](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundam_Rock) seems appropriate, it’s too… human. ---

The Flaming Lips’ [Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part 1](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq-W-4Izjwc) or even [One More Robot](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHK9C5cy74c) might qualify. Especially if you accept “Jed the Humanoid” mentioned upthread… I always thought Grandaddy’s “The Sophtware Slump” and the Flaming Lips’ “Yoshimi” were (thematically and musically) a single album recorded by two different bands. ---
