North Korea has done a good job making a privilege class. The people close to him live really well to stop government coup.

The military generals and military close to him are treated well.

The one in three that are malnourished will not get any where close to him.

So if war broke out it is unlikely a government coup would happen.

I think there are two things that could happen (but may well not) that could cause a coup (I’m speaking of a purely internal one, not backed by another nation). The first is if Kim were to go crazier with purges and killings of the higher-ups. A certain amount is not uncommon to these types of regimes (especially when a new person comes to power), but if the leader go too far with it and no one in the circle of higher ups feels safe (ie, they don’t think they have much to lose), then action might be taken.

The second way is if war did break out and it was became obvious NK was going to lose. Some might turn on him/offer him up out of self-preservation.

Not saying these are likely to happen, but that they are within the realm of possibility.

Also, where’s the one-in-three malnourished number come from? Is that for the KPA or the population in general? Obviously, it’s a secretive government, and we (the general public) don’t know a lot. They aren’t having the wide-spread starvation of the Arduous March, anymore (and even that didn’t cause a general uprising). They recently raised food allowances (good harvest) but they still aren’t high enough - even if everyone gets that allowance now (unlike AM, I think). This article estimates 41% of the population is malnourished.

What I’m saying is there is privilege class among the elite that will do every thing in their power to try to stay in power.

If there is coup than most likely they will replace it with other dictator. Unless some how the military can remove the elite and implement democracy. With out democracy there will just be other dictator.

The privilege class will do every thing to not talk about the crimes and life because they them selves are also suspects.

The people that own these privilege stores and privilege restaurants will do EVERY thing they can to keep quite. Any talk and they them selves could be put in jail.
