- Enough Christian bashing in this ep?

- Poor Master P’s kid will never get his own private island

- That ending was just… vicious. I think Cartman has sunk to a new low

Actually, aside from “Xtian rock sucks, Xtians will buy anything!” theme, it went pretty easy on the Christians, I thought.

Once again Cartman stumbles into big bucks in a quest to humiliate Kyle, and then loses it all.

Well, it went pretty easy on Christians (although some of the song lyrics were hilarious–“I want to go down on my knees and please You, Jesus, and feel Your salvation all over my face”). The show seemed to be mocking Christian-themed merchandising and the exploitation of faith for monetary gain, and not mocking the faith itself.

They never do, just the people in it.

I hope they release a Faith + 1 CD. I am _so_ there.

I liked the Christian rock part of the episode…a lot. The don’t-download-music-because-you’re-taking-the-caviar-out-of-musicians-mouths shtick wasn’t so funny to me.

I nearly choked on the water I was drinking when Token kicked his ass for one too many black asshole remarks.

I didn’t see much Christian-bashing. If anything, it was bashing atheists who take _advantage_ of Christians. And this atheist thought it was hilarious—never thought I’d be laughing my head off at an eight-year-old singing about giving Jesus a blow job . . .

Yep no-christian bashing- rather they are ripping into some of the more cynical marketers looking to exploit them. Still, the people who unquestioningly buy some of their crap come of as pretty stupid as well.

While Token wailing on Cartman was gratifying, Butters’ revenge was funnier to me.

Since when can they say A##hole without a beep?

The fact that Token could play the base was funny. As was Cartman’s lyrics.

Overall a funny, solid episode.

One thing I have noticed is how advanced the animation has gotten. Especially last week, with the QE intro done with the boys and Slave swinging through the window, alot more work has gone into that aspect.

Exactly.

I am a Christian and agree with the critique, actually(though I obviously thought they went too far with the sexual lyrics).

The commercial aspects of the Christian subculture are amazingly stupid now. People will buy anything. Instead of trying to be unique, so many Christians try to come up with Christian versions of secular entertainment. Cartman was right about Christian songs, though. Many sound like love songs with Jesus instead of baby.

Okay episode.

Hilarious episode. Much funnier than the “Queer Eye” one last week. Question – was the ending shot, with Cartman gasping for breath on the dais with a huge picture of “Faith + 1” behind him supposed to be reminiscent of a particular movie?

Since always. Where the hell you been?

They had an episode a while back in which they said shit unbleeped over a hundred times and I heard (though I didn’t see it) that Comedy Central aired the South Park movie unedited.

CC (and all other cable networks for that matter) don’t answer to the same FCC content regulations that broadcast networks do, it’s only CC’s own discretion that causes them to bleep the F-bombs in the first place.

</div>

Anyway, I agree that the dowloading music subplot was a lot less funny than Cartman’s quest for X-tian rock fame.

The reason is, they didn’t go far enough with it. They should have dedicated an entire ep to the subjecty and really ripped into the music industry and RIAA in particular, but they made it secondary to Cartman’s plot and the entire thing felt like a wasted opportunity.

Also, like last week with the Crab people the show is once again dipping into its well of well-worn plots, this time once again having Cartman go to insane lengths just to humiliate Kyle.

The first half of season seven featured some really kick-ass episodes, but so far for the second half it’s almost starting to feel a little like they’re just going through the motions. The show’s returned to familiar material in the past, but only in these last two eps have I really gotten a “been-there-done-that” feeling about it.

Has South Park finally jumped the shark?

Well, not only is this a humiliate-Kyle episode, but South Park has already done the Cartman-exploits-Christianity-to-make money when he posed as an evangelist so he could get his $10 million.

I missed the “swearing on TV” thread, but my understanding was that it was the _advertisers_, not the FCC that determined what gets bleeped and what doesn’t. I don’t quite see why cable and broadcast have a different set of standards, but I’m too lazy to wait for a search now… 😉 Anyway…

_This_ is what I’m talking about, an episodes that doesn’t have to dip into the surreal or bizarre just to advance the plot. Although my jaded side was still waiting for aliens or something else to happen. I loved the album cover photo shoot and Token discovering that he can play bass. The end reminded me too much of the Timmy/Jimmy cripple fight, but Butters’ reaction was priceless. I just knew he was going to do something funny.

They did indeed show Bigger Longer and Uncut with no edits. After about five mins of me thinking “wow I can’t believe they’re doing this” I changed the channel.

I thought this episode was a crackup. Best one in a while.

The no-downloading stuff was kind of weak, but the ending, with Cartman semi-conscious and sobbing, was out there even for this show. Yeah, Cartman frequently loses and winds up embarrassed or worse, but I don’t remember seeing him get the ever-loving shit kicked out of him.

More out there than Cartman tricking an adversary into eating his parents and then licking his guilt-ridden tears?

## Peace.

**moriah’s law of Christian Pop:** Name any top 10 artist, and there is a Christian singer or group with the same sound. (Freaky parallel or blatant rip-off? You decide.)

Although I still found it really really funny, I **knew** Token was going to do that! He’s probably the most normal, well-adjusted kid in the show and he (consequently) doesn’t like hanging out with the main characters (Cartman especially), so I knew that he would not take too much of Eric’s crap for long.

And I thought the whole downloading plot worked really well. Seeing the guy from Metallica sobbing because he’s gonna have to wait a few extra weeks to get his gold, panther-shaped hot tub (or whatever it was) installed!

Plus having Britney say, “No, we’re just in it for the money” was great!

Not to mention a christian album going **double-myrrh**!!

I did like the bit about music downloading, but I agree they should have done more with it. Instead of Cartman blowing all his money on a big parade, they should have shown the record producers handing Cartman a check for $10 or so, which is all his contract says he gets for his million-selling album, while the producers keep the rest. Then, a good old-fashioned Cartman flipout.
