And we all saw that in @Galactus ’ “Family Goes Berserk” video upthread. The glasses-and-beard guy is trying to quote dictionary definitions, while the long-haired guy pulls out a thick legal dictionary (only Black’s can be that thick), and starts quoting what he purports to be caselaw out of a notebook. Then they argue about the meanings of “driving,” “travelling,” and “operating,” before the police officer (who demonstrated great patience with this horseshit) has had enough.

I would have arrested her just for the voice.
Having watched a lot of “Court Cam”, I feel confident in saying they refuse to have counsel because they’re determined to disrupt, harangue, and obstreperously obstruct any court proceedings, as loudly as possible, while being video-recorded by their equally obnoxious supporters in the audience. They thrive on being better-than-everyone jerks.
And they are upset with lawyers as no lawyer will defend them on the basis of their fevered imagination.
Ayup, plus they know so much more about the Constitution and the law than any stupid lawyer-fella.
ETA: I wonder how many of them would be clinically diagnosable as having Oppositional Defiant Disorder?

My brother-in-law used to be a police officer, and when I asked him if he’d ever dealt with sovereign citizens he said, “I hate those guys. ‘I’m not driving I’m travelling!’” It was the first time I’d heard that particular word game from them but I have since seen it in other places. It’s like they’ve got some sort of magical thinking going on and believe that by using the proper incantations they can get what they want.
