Apparently the Canadians deal with lots of angry Canadian SovCits demanding their 2nd or 5th Amendment rights, claiming stuff is “Unconstitutional”, and relying on wacky interpretations of the UCC. All of which are US concepts foreign to Canada.
I understand there’s a lot of bleed-over in television. But you’d hope there’s at least a few enterprising Canadians able to update the scripts to use proper Canadian legal doublespeak then sell that stuff as better and more genuinely Canadian. I guess not.
Hmm. I wonder if I, a USAian in the USA, could be prosecuted by Canada for selling Canada-centric SovCit how-to guides to Canadians over the internet. ‘Scuse me folks, while I bow outta the thread here. I got some Googlin’ to do.
I work in local government, and there are a few SCs we deal with fairly regularly. It fact I (and several co-workers) was named in one of their recent filings - although I have no idea whom they planned to file it with?
However where it gets ugly, is when they file liens on your properties.
It has not happened me yet, but it not uncommon for them to do this to local officials.
That’s the part that’s always amused me about these guys. I could accept, just maybe, the notion that one country has some kind of hidden flaw in its legal system that could be exploited in some way to assert “hidden freedoms”, if you were clever enough to figure it out. But these guys would have us believe that every legal system in the world, despite evolving separately, all have the exact same hidden flaws. Even if a lot of them share some common elements from hundreds of hears ago, like the English Common Law or the Magna Carta, they’d have us believe that no one else has ever noticed the flaw, and fixed it.
Flaw? Those nutters believe it’s a feature.

I’m injured and stuck in a recliner, so I got sucked into some SovCit stuff on Youtube yesterday. Now, I don’t have any sympathy for corrupt cops, but putting up with this bullshit is more than any rational human being should be asked to do. Refraining from using the Taser or cracking skulls is truly admirable.

Most often what I’ve seen is them claiming to rely on “their Xth Amendment rights“ or similar. So not misquoting as such. Just utterly misguided about application.
