David Bowie’s Space Oddity, as sung by Commander Chris Hadfield from the International Space Station. [![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/KaOC9danxNo/maxresdefault.jpg "Space Oddity") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaOC9danxNo) Gave me chills. ---

Very very cool. Some more info [here](http://emmgryner.com/emmbassy/?q=node/861) from pianist and sometime Bowie band member Emm Gryner. ---

It was moving. So moving, I’m not being snarky about anything in this post except the lack of snarkiness! Sincerity, wow, what a rush. ---

Which just goes to show, once more, that no matter what I do in my life, I will never be a fraction as cool as an astronaut. ---

What a great video! Well done, Commander Chris! ---

Strangely enough, watching that video made my allergies flair up. I loved the zero G guitar spinning away down the tunnel for an inordinately cool length of time (and the mad following dive by Chris to save it before it hit anything). ---

Oh, and that isn’t the coolest guitar in space - I think [this is](http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://astronaut.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/musique-Chris-Hadfield-guitare.jpg&imgrefurl=http://astronaut.com/space-rock-star-astronaut-chris-hadfield-becoming-canadian-celebrity/&h=612&w=918&sz=558&tbnid=MLKptIN_L3M0CM:&tbnh=56&tbnw=84&zoom=1&usg=__Dhg6a29HNIXZtz8ZOsSIw2TTLV0=&docid=QWTXp2amaLyZ2M&sa=X&ei=F9WQUd3sLMS60AG-xYHoCg&ved=0CMIBEP4dMBA) ---

I really love Chris Hadfield. I think he’s done a wonderful job promoting space programs in general and the ISS. And Canada. GO CANADA! He’s here in Calgary to be the Stampede Parade Marshall this July (according to the tweets last week). I can’t wait to see him. ---

Awesome. Chris is an inspiration to all. I imagine he has inspired a lot of kids in school right now to take an interest in science and space research. ---

Can’t link it at the moment, but I read an article that showed Bowie’s tweeted response to the tweet of the video: “Hallo spaceboy” (which is the title of another of his songs). Love it. ---

Definitely full of win, and one of his crewmates _IS_ named Tom (though he isn’t a major) [Thomas Marshburn - Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Marshburn) Brian [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/space-oddity-iiinnn-spaaaaaaaace/658210.md?page=2)
