Young Frankenstein is Brooks’ funniest (I haven’t seen The Producers), and it’s very funny. Nothing else I’ve seen of his is very funny.

Sorry, **Cisco** , but that’s just the way it is. _High Anxiety_ was about half as funny as _Young Frankenstein,_ and nothing Brooks has made since then has been funny at all.

_Spaceballs_ itself is one of the least funny “comedies” I’ve ever seen. Its jokes weren’t just puerile and cheap; they were also obvious. Also, memo to Mel: a parody of ONE movie (as opposed to a whole genre) works better if you don’t wait 20 years after that movie was a pop-culture phenomenon.

Spaceballs isn’t among Mel’s classics, but its far better than Robin Hood & Dracula (I do recall enjoying Love Stinks but it’s been years since I’d seen it.)

After many years hiatus, I finally saw The Producers again a couple of years ago. I loved it when I was a kid, but alas, it did not hold up for me at all.

I’m so hoping this will be good!

I heartily agree, Young Frankenstein is one of my favorite movies. It’s probably the only movie I have ever watched over a dozen times. I had already owned the VHS but I also bought the DVD. Anytime I see it on TV I have to stop everything and watch it (even though they cut out all the good parts).

I liked Spaceballs, just for the corny silly comedy, but I love Young Frankenstein.

Spaceballs was 1987 - 10 years after Star Wars and only 4 years after Return of the Jedi.

Me and a friend got this out the other week. I’d seen it when I was little, and I thought that it might be funnier now that I’m older and would get more of the references and stuff.

Nup. The only thing I didn’t ‘get’ as a kid was the ‘Drewish princess’ bit and that wasn’t really funny. I felt kinda let down - I remembered it being so funny…

Funny. She doesn’t look druish.

How can you guys think this movie is unfunny?! What about jamming the radar? What about Michael Winslow? What about damn near everything Dark Helmet says or does?

I feel like I’m taking CRAZY PILLS!

You over there, have you found anything?

We ain’t found _shit_!

Watched this again on DVD a couple of weeks ago. Too funny. I don’t hold out much hope for a sequel though, as other people have rightly pointed out, Spaceballs was a blip in a career that was otherwise hurtling towards the ragged rocks of suckitude ever since Young Frankenstein.

We’ll see.

Spaceballs was all right. NOt great, not awful.

Dammit! His timing’s all off. I told Mr. Snicks at the time that it’d be the opus of Brooks’s career if he rereleased _Spaceballs_ at the same time Lucas released the “Special Editions.” The best part would be that he’d play up _Spaceballs_ has “new and improved - digitally enhanced!” but in reality, nothing would’ve been done to the picture at all.

Now that woulda been funny.

A giant vaccuum cleaner?

“comb the desert” oh look, its a giant comb. Seriously, That’s like one of the sight gags from the Munsters.

“I see your scwhartz has grown.”

These are high school kid jokes, really on the level of a movie like “Club Dread” and probably even less funny. They’re all delivered in that “borsch belt schtick” style.

Here’s the set up. Here’s the punchline.

Druish Princess? What’s the joke? They’re saying Druish instead of Jewish?

What can we expect in the sequel, someone called a Druslim?

This is NOT a funny movie.

This is the best damn movie news that I have heard in a loooooong time! Hopefully it will be out around the same time that the new musical “The Producers” is released. I could use a good double dose of Mel Brooks at the cineplex. School your teenagers now about “Spaceballs”. LOL.

I **LOVE** Spaceballs! I hope this one is a prequel with a new cast.

You have to be in the right mindset for Mel Brooks. You know he’ll make obvious, cheap, crude, stupid high school jokes. Cornball, pop culture references that sound like your father good-naturedly picking on your kid sister. Then he’ll resolve the story neatly at the end of it. _That’s_ why his formula works. You know what you’re going to get with Mel Brooks.

And I thought that _Robin Hood: Men in Tights_ had it’s moments.
