One of my less pleasant recollections of childhood is finding a cold Spam sandwich in my lunchbag (“cold” as in “straight from the can onto white bread, without scraping off the gloop first”). Then there was the exquisite sensation of chomping down on a piece of gristle — my jaw would ache for hours, and it almost guaranteed that Sister Mary Godzilla would call on me repeatedly after lunch. That said, I always have a can or two hanging around. And Spam and pancakes has become a traditional Christmas breakfast of late. ---

I’ve got to be in the right mood and the wife has to be away (she hates the stuff) but there has been a time or two I’ve had it as part of all three meals in a day. Not having it very often makes it a kind of treat. ---

I remember from my childhood many meals of Spam with a Kraft Hickory-Smoked BBQ Sauce topping. Can’t seem to remember what went with it…string beans, I think? ---
