Heard this morning that Musk may be on track to be a possible Speaker of the House under the new trump regime. Is there precedent for an unelected person to assume the role of Speaker? (Election solely by the members of the majority party in the House doesn’t count. I mean election by citizens of a congressional district.) ---

No need to make him Speaker, since he’s already calling the shots. Anyway, in my brief googling, I don’t think a non-member of the House has ever been speaker, and there’s no way that Elon will be first. ---

It seems wildly unlikely to me. Keep in mind that it’s not up to Trump who the Speaker is but is selected by a vote among House members. ---

Seems like he’s already calling the shots and most everyone is backing down on the budget vote. There’s going to be a colossal ego clash between him and Trump at some point. ---

IIRC, the person who’s been 4th or 5th in the line of succession has at times been ineligible for the presidency; why should 3rd be any different? ---

I’m pretty sure Musk will not be interested in doing the donkey’s work of a speaker. He will feel it’s way below his stature and beneath his status now that he is “the super president”. ---

I believe one of Nancy Pelosi’s great strengths as Speaker was getting the votes to pass legislation and working with the other party. This position is one for someone who can manage the politics, not a dilettante billionaire to play at. ---
