His body disappeared when he became a force ghost like when Obi-wan and Yoda died The suit was all Luke had for the ceremony And it’s a great visual for the movie ---

What’s going to suck is if Han, Chewie & Leia die but they don’t get to be force ghosts with a happy ending. I guess Leia could go force ghost, but Han and Chewie are screwed. ---

In some story in the EU, which is apparently no longer canon, they revealed that Chewie didn’t get a medal at the end of Star Wars only because he was too tall for Princess Leia to put one on him. He did get awarded one after the big ceremony. ---

Qui-gon Jinn, Obi-wan, and Yoda got to be Force ghosts. With Obi-wan and Yoda, we are shown that their corporeal bodies vanished. And in the closing scene of Return of the Jedi, we see Anakin Skywalker (being redeemed at the very end, no longer to be referred to as Darth Vader) appear as a Force ghost too. So we should have expected his corpse would disappear too. ---
