I recommend El Pollo Loco. Love their rice. And beans. I have eaten many a lunch at the one up on Foothill Blvd. and Ocean View in La Crescenta/La Canada area of Los Angeles. Never got tired of it. Mmmm. ---

If you ever have the oppertunity to be in my hometown of Dublin, Ireland, check out Eddie Rockets… absoutley beautiful food, a little bit more expensive than a McDonalds, but a million times better. In the northwest suburbs of Chicago: Any one of the many Vienna Beef places. Two in particular: Chiggy’s Gyros and Char-Broiled Delights (dogs to die for). No one can beat the Beef and the Pizza in Chicago! ---

When I lived in New Mexico, Blake’s Lotaburger was absolutely the last word for a hamburger. Fresh, incredibly flavorful patties that were the perfect thickness and covered the bun completely, and nice toppings to boot. Their green chile cheeseburger is one of very few things I miss living back east. In Ohio, we have a slowly expanding chain called Max & Erma’s. Not truly fast food, as meals are served on real plates, but their menu is built around simple entrees, and their hallmark is their burger (1/3 or 1/2 pound size, cooked as you like it, many topping combinations available). Comes with a side of seasoned fries (or substitution), and is hard to beat. A rare instance of expansion carefully built on really good food and well-deserved reputation for consistent quality. ---

I don’t live there anymore, but I’m originally from Montgomery County, Maryland and the absolute best donuts in the entire world (at least where I’ve been 🙂 ) is Montgomery Donuts. They’re chocolate glazed are just great. We have Krispy Kreme where we are now and, although their lemon filled are pretty good, nothing compares to Montgomery’s. Some other good MD places, if they’re still there are: Tippy’s Tacos, Hot Shoppes (yummy hot fudge ice cream cake), and Carvel’s Ice Cream. Can you tell I have a sweet tooth? Satan, I’m with you on the CharGrill. I might have to get to Raleigh this weekend! ---

Here in the metro NY area, we have White Castles (seems to me they’re everywhere, though, from the posts) and most of the generic McD’s type places. But there are also Planet Wings (never been, so I dunno). Rochester, NY, however, has Bill Grays (seriously great and greasy food!) Don & Bob’s (not as good, but just as greasy) Tom Wahl’s (kickass ice cream, as well as burgers and such) and Abe’s (which is the new favorite when we visit, cause it’s near my bro-in-law’s house). The Buffalo area (specifically Fredonia, where I matriculated) has Aldrich’s Dairy. TV, I agree that in Ohio, Skyline is a **must** But be forewarned, they are not texican chili, they are different. In and Out is goooood burgers, and they make heroin fries. ## Max and Ermas is pretty good. Is Arby’s a national chain? I try not to do fast food but I must confess I have a weakness for their beef 'n cheddar sammich. With respect to **Fudrucker’s** , I haven’t beed able to go into that place because I did a spoonerism the first time I said the word (try it!). Also on the list of Places I Can’t Eat In Because Their Names Are Too Comical: Booeymonger. Every time I pass those places, I automatically think boogey monster. ---

Narile, re: t-shirt @ Max & Erma’s - When eating there last week I happened to look at that notice on the menu, which is curiously well-timed – we often don’t look at the menu at all, since we pretty much know what’s on it and it’s only a matter of picking which of our favorites we are in the mood for. (Yes, we go there too often for sure.) If I recall correctly, it now says that you get a shirt free for consuming three garbage burgers, as long as you tell them in advance you’re going to do it. (Though surely one wouldn’t order three garbage burgers without having that goal in mind.) It doesn’t say if you have to finish the sides too, so I will have to ask next time to make sure now that you have me wondering. I’ve thought idly that SO could certainly manage to consume three burgers, but three @ $7.99 would cost as much as buying a shirt outright (perhaps a bit more, don’t remember exact current t-shirt price), so it seems rather pointless to force such an “exercise in (over) self-indulgence” if you don’t really want such an excessive meal. (And “bragging rights” are pretty small coin.) A fun, comfortable place, though, and just one burger with bacon and cheese and a cold draft (on the side, not on the burger) would sure go good about now. ---
